Third pickup! Kind of does a sympathetic vibrato/trem thing and also a kinda sorta doubling effect...really interesting twang tones. Kinda fun!

Sounds: https://www.instagram.com/p/BDmBU5xmYAd/ with the faustone fuzz unit. I'll probably make a better youtubes video down the road.

Been spending all my free time trying to figure out just what the Cocoquantus does. Recorded a Daniel Johnston sample on one of the delay's, patched its square wave out into its SP.AF to modulate, also touched one of the VCO outputs from the oscillator section onto the Flip input to glitch/reverse the sample.

This weekends toan goalz involve:

Guitar > EHX Silencer > Reverb > Amp

In the effects loop of the silencer:

Treble Booster > Compressor > OD > Fuzz > Flanger > EHX Superego

In the effects loop of the Superego:

Ring Modulator with frequency controlled by expression pedal

Then, set the superego to latch mode, and set layers all the way up. Record a Cm7 arpeggio one note at a time into the superego, one note per layer, and each layer with a different guitar effect. Once the superego is droning with 5 or 6 notes of differing wavelength and effect, set the silencer's threshold, attack, and release so that the drone fades in gently and out slowly over the top of my guitar signal when I play...kinda like the sympathetic drone of a sitar.

Then solo to my heart's content in C Dorian Minor...and warp around the drone with the expression pedal.

Will probably sound like crap and be a total waste of time. Wish me luck.

Its really good :thumb: I spent the last couple days experimenting around the garage :joy: I got all excited about contact mics again cause I've got a cocoquantus coming and it has piezo preamp/inputs. Found the BB, but I've also got a bunch of piezo's somewhere ready to be wired up, if i can find them... :omg:
Yeah, they're rad. I have plans to set mine up on a talbetop board that'll be like baby wolf eyes. Gotta get to the hardware store for screws and springs sometimes soon.

Signal chain: Agile Bloodburst Interpid 828 EMG, Agile Lizardburst Septor Pro 727 EMG, and Schecter Black Cherry S-1 Elite guitars>Dongeomac Green Ringer clone>MJKelectronics Ampeg Scrambler Clone>Noisereap NR1 Asstone>Builtbyryan Fender Blender clone>Idiodbox Dungeon Master>J. Rockett WTF>Holowon Static Egg>Frederic Effects Perky Harlot>Fuzzhugger V2 Algal Bloom>Lone Wolf Audio Iron Fist>Earthbound Audio Pale Mare>Satellite Effects Faultline Activator>Atomic Amps Amplifire with Zoom MS-70CDR in the effects loop into PreSonus HD7 cans.

After spending 10 or so minutes wiring everything together, the later part of the evening and wee hours of the morning melted away in a 6-hour doomed-out, fuzzy haze that began with lots of pointless wankery, transitioned into something like song writing as I began to use guitars with fewer strings, and concluded when I looked up at a clock and realized it was suddenly 0330 and the dogs needed to be walked (whoops). Three of the fuzzes on this makeshift collection of boards were new to me this week (MJK Scrambler clone, Earthbound Pale Mare, and Idiotbox Dungeon Master).

I also received a Sunsine Harmonic Decoder that was supposed to be part of this mega rig and had to be sent back to Perfect Circuit Audio because it was either broken or highly incompatible with my rig. Has anyone else owned one of these who could confirm if it oscillates when engaged, if there is noise bleedthrough in bypass, and if its guitar signal tracking is just shit by design?

A fellow ILFer had questions about compatibility of the Pale Mare and Dungeon Master with bass. I can comment regarding their compatibility with an 8-string guitar in drop E, which is within bass range (though not the same for various reasons-I'm aware). The Idiotbox Dungeon Master has significant variability in the upper range of its EQ controls and could work for noise freakouts, but may suck too much bass or mids out of a bass guitar signal with most of its usable settings. The Pale Mare could likely prove more bass-friendly given the frequency control for the B-fuzz mode, vast tone sweep, and three switchable treble filter options.

When I was breaking down last's night's double fuzzy wanking board, it became clear that I essentially have 2 of everything I could potentially need at this point in terms of fuzz types, which is marvelous considering the master plan of being able to arrange Doom, Shoegaze, and Noise boards periodically for recording purposes using the Mackie Onyx that just arrived in the mail today (provided it proves compatible with my laptop and Amplifire).

That's the tiniest Scrambler clone I've ever seen.

You should ask lordgalvar about the harmonic decoder. I know he has one.

The scrambler clone is more or less vintage spec as well, which is an added bonus.

Thanks for the tip about the Harmonic Decoder.

I thought it tracked fine as far as PLLs go. About the same. Has better tracking overall than the Octasynth (I know it isn't a pll) but doesn't track as well as the 4046m or the second voice v2 (even though the second voice is way more tame). I don't really think perfect tracking is the point with it though...it is supposed to be a kind of noise/glitch thing. The depth screwed with it quite a bit too, so that is more to taste than functional.

It is pretty gated too. No noise when bypassed or anything. Sounds like it was broken.

Personally, I think it will shine more when used to filter more rhythmic stuff (like as a dynamic change or kinda note extender like on weird riffs or like a drum machine) than a pure melodic device. The CV in will really add a lot if you patch an lfo/sequence and defeat the envelope (I think the env sounds kinda samey on the dynamics...not a lot of expression there).

However, I would run it earlier in a chain and avoid buffers, overgaining it, or really sending it any more of a complicated signal...things like this like to track more pure signals in my opinion (but a lot of that is preference...and I don't like signals chains with over 5 effects...the signal just sounds weak to me in a long run, even with a buffer).

Just an opinion on it.

Thanks for chiming in about your experiences with the Harmonic Decoder. I figured it was either broken, or my Atomic Amplifire was excessively amplifying unwanted noise again (as it has with a hollow bodied guitar and at least 2 fuzzes). I was actually hoping the Harmonic Decoder would be somewhere in the ballpark of a Tim Escobedo Uglyface (my favorite oscillosynth fuzz effect), but, apparently, it's a different animal in many respects.
