Current board(s).
Dirt board (that's a Wizard Fountain, and a Dunlop Octavio reissue at the end) which runs into...
Delay/Modulation board.

Not a board, but here's my set-up from a noise jam at a friend's studio last night:

There was one part in there where we were throwing an oscillating sine wave into an expression converter and then into the exp of the Spring Chicken and it was making these awesome kick drum sounds. And the white noise coming out of the Synth Mangler was ending up like a weird kind of mouth harp tone. I <3 Pedlulz....

I think I feel my brain leaking out of my ear. Anything more than bass--pedals--amp, and I'm lost.

I keep trying NOT to get into modular synths, but that's kind of what's happening... And yeah man, warm goop spilling out where my brains used to be for sure.

It's damn hard, isn't it? I curse those Moog people, their Moogerfoogers got me into this trouble.
The other day I've let my Digidelay be an oscillator with my CCB. Then I ringmodulated the whole thing using my guitar as a carrier. Mad, mad noise. And so much fun, specially cause I know that I played a merry ol' country tune.

whats a good budget modular synth? like one to start with... I'm crap with playing synths/keyboards but love the idea of modular synths with all the oscillating goodness...

I was asking to myself: How many experimental guitarist use their pedalboard with their hands and not their foots ?
In placing their pedals or a table for example

If you just want the oscillating goodness, probably something Electro-Faustus, or a Rot Yr Brain of course! :D

Well, that sort of depends. By modular, I'll assume you want something patchable, so I guess I'd say the Doepfer Dark Energy or maybe the MFB Kraftzwerg are good all-in-one units. Though they are not by any means "budget". Conversely, you could start picking up used Moogerfoogers one at a time and gradually build up a many-headed signal processing hydra which you'd be able to patch and oscillate into some really interesting sounds.
And yeah, I almost always play with my gear on a table. The set-up in this picture didn't have any guitar in it. It just used the white noise from the Synth Mangler and the self-oscillation of the TSP MoleS20r (the red and white box in the lower left) as sound sources. We had a MIDI keyboard hooked up to the MoleS20r (via a MIDI/CV converter)so we could play its self-oscillation like a crude synth. It was super fun!

How do you use the LPII as a carrier?
