To misquote Ron Swanson, “I don’t know how many dollars I have, but I know how many guitar pedals I own.”

I have three plastic tubs of pedals

I’m sure counting them would be a bad idea

Pedals take up so space... until they do.
I've been zig and zagged so many times this year... NOT GREAT!

Ah yeah just saw the sound saw on Instagram. Not sure I'm interested in that one especially since I've got a pedal with some kkf variant in (salt box) but it looks great.

Current gear goal is to not buy anymore gear and probably sell a lot of pedals.

Been putting off some fretwork, and I need to replace the blown speaker in my little Behringer stage monitor--man, I miss playing in front of people!! I gotta get some daisy chain cabes, too

Fun stuff: I've decided I need a blackface Fender amp, but that might have to wait until next year. I'd adore an '80s Japanese Squier--I played one when I was a kid surfing the (used to be) two guitar shops in my hometown, and I played one with a $99 price tag: the cutest little strat bb I'd ever played. I was going to purchase it immediately with gig money, and then I saw the layaway tag  The prices seem to have increased by a lot!

There could also be an Ottobit Jr., a harmonica mic, and an A/B switcher in my future.

Dream Reaper and Pirk are on their way!

It's november and I've gotten 0 flangers, damn (ok the qv has flange so i haz 1). Guitar thing went to shit again. Think I gotta start microdosing meth or something cause I plan and scrap a guitar build a day it seems. Bought alot more overdrives than I expected but I've seemed more content at what I've conjured tone wise. Probably cause I've gotten better at guitar and better at turning knobs this video was a huge eye opener to approaching delays. Not having to deal with achieving in a band that wants to have more experience that exists may also be a factor.

I feel I gotta focus more. Really wish to DIY more, it's fun, good for mental health. I was really stupid though and decided to PTP a rangemaster, turned out awful. Not having a PCB to see were shit were was a nightmare. Add to this my anexiety over dealing with germanium stuff. Not good! Need to pick more sane project like a big muff or something.

My main goal for 2020 is to master or take more advantage over the capabilities of what I am using. I want to build out all the presets that I can and set up my MIDI such that it is an extension of what I do as opposed to a container limiting me. I want to have my setup.programmed so that it is natural and logical and know it to the point that I can jump around w ease for any situation of crazy thought that pops in my head.

Here's where we are at today...
Image

MIDI is Meris Ottobit Jr, Meris Hedra, Red Panda Particle, Red Panda Tensor, and Panda Audio Future Impact.

Most likely gonna swap out the moog LPF for an Iron Ether xerograph deluxe to open some space and then get more dirt in their...debating a MIDI controlled switcher for dirt mgmt.

Interesting to see where we were almost a year ago as we were entering 2020 vs where we are now...

so as far as taking more advantage of MIDI and what I've got...FAIL

I have made changes to the board, leaning much heavier towards more varieties of dirt. I've taken steps backwards in my use of MIDI and programming in abandoning my existing setup/presets which were vast for a few more honed in presets. I have put some focus on getting a better base of patches programmed as I'm starting to seek out playing with other live musicians again (covid crushed that for me earlier in the year) so the main goal is actually something I'm working on currently.

What 2020 has mostly turned into is - browsing classifieds and reading about pedals to avoid reading about the news while being stuck in my home for 85% of my life resulting in an inability to spend money the way I used to so I've redirected my frivolous concert/bar/being social/having a car budget into GAS and I don't want to stop to count what was purchased this year, but it includes at minimum:
- ASM Hydrasynth (keys)
- Fender Tele Thinline
- chasing pedals from builders who have stopped building before they become CRAZY-ier expensive (Dunwhich, Dwarfcraft, moffenzeef)
- keeping up w new & unique releases from favorite builders
- going deep deep deep into the dirt rabbit hole
- amassing a collection of desktop / noise / drone synths
- several functional changes to my home setup including new mixing boards, portable amps, cabling, etc etc etc

I've definitely surrounded myself w stuff this year...that's for sure.

I've got the components here for five pedals I'd like to build plus most of the bits for my eight-fuzzes-in-a-box project, so next year is going to be more building than buying.

Probably.

I've not done any recording for a while, and I doubt I'll do any before the end of the year, but as I've uploaded more than 250 pieces to YouTube in the last two years I reckon a period of reflection is ok :)

I might do something a little more obviously musical next, if only to show myself that I can do it if I want ;)
So with a plan to ease up on buying pedals and recording, I spent 2020 buying loads of pedals and recording lots of music.

The pedal buying was driven in equal measure by the lock down and an influx of spare cash which I largely spent on cheering myself up.

The set up grew from around 20 up to 40 and has now settled back down again, with 25 pedals on the sidelines (not including the ones I built myself).

I have at least recorded some more obviously musical tracks, something which I'll continue to do in 2021 along with the usual more random stuff.

My mission for 2021, should I choose to accept it, is to learn about the various complicated pedals I have which are currently only being used in simple ways because I have no real idea of what they're capable of doing.

The only pedal I would really like to buy (again) is another Count To 5, other than that I think anything else I buy will be more for the thrill of seeing the postman heading for my door than because I really need it.

number 1 priority for 2020 is a Jazzmaster, most likely a Squier CV. i'd also like to get one of the new Squier Mustang Bass reissues, and a Keeley Loomer. other than that, i need to get my 3 dysfunctional amps fixed (the AC15 is the only one in working order) and get a couple of 1x12 cabinets to load with the Eminence JBL D clone a friend gifted me and a Hiwatt clone. i'm pretty much sorted for guitars, but may try to buy back the Blueridge slope-shoulder J-45 style acoustic i sold to a friend in 2013. and i want a pickup for my acoustic 12er so i can use it as an electric 12 as well.
well, some things happened, others didn't, and things i didn't expect happened. i got a little mystery tube head awhile back that i never used till this year that turns out to be the reverb unit from a Hammond 100 organ. it has some tweaks to the original which make it capable of a vast variety of sounds. i got a 1x12 for the Weber (i was wrong above) D120 and when pushed with the head it hollers up a storm. got a Squier Jazzmaster as part of trading my Rickenbacker 360 for a Guild Aristocrat and the JM that's working out well. i also got a Gretsch Pro Jet with TV Jones FilterTrons which i'm working on now, and a CMC Effects MK II Tone Bender on Reverb which is awesome sauce. no bass, no Loomer, no amps fixed. i think i'm going to go with a dedicated electric 12. haven't had the guts or the funds to try and get the Blueridge back. spent a couple of weeks setting up all the electrics. god, i hate that shit, but i can't afford a Dallas Schoo.

I had no goals for 2020 outside of completing my creative post-a-day 365 blog. 3 more weeks (I started Dec 1st, 2019) and I've done it! Pretty damn proud of myself on this one.

I assume there will be a new thread for 2021, but I just started a euro system so shit's going to be WILD.
