I use a flanger so rarely, that one trick, if its a good one, would be all I'd need.

Phaser v flanger. Meh.
I guess if you could only have 1 or the other then a Flanger is more versatile overall...but it's debatable (The Korg Nu-Vibe, Moog 12stage and MuTron BiPhase seem about as versatile as it gets)...and fortunately we don't live in such a world :hobbes:

Hella overlap in the sounds but so much depends on circuit/method of effect, signal source & user technique+preference.
There's enough difference (and specialization) to justify 2 phasers & a flanger, which makes up half of my current guitar board
Effectrode is a photo-optical 4 stage tube phaser set for manual sweeping and fixed comb filtering; severe effect
Deja-vibe is a photo-optical (icr 4 or 6 stage) transistor phaser set for slow seasick pitch vibrato; subtle effect
PolyFlange is idkwot op-amp based flanger using the Reticon chip, set for medium throaty/whooshing movement; middle-of-the-road effect

The Deja & Poly are always-on, having become cornerstones...and all 3 together makes for a legendary experience every time :snax:

The Specter can do the chorus sounds I use and more, which is what pushed me to sell my Warped Vinyl for the Specter. Also can do more destructive things with my playing for my noisier projects. :!!!:

If I get a chorus again I might go back to the polytope though. :idk:

i was so hyped for the Spectre but now with the horrendous exchange rate and CME's international shipping it's at $600 for me  :flame:
when you guys get yours can you just lie and tell me it's not that good so i don't feel the need to repeatedly headbutt the nearest wall? kthx

If it makes you feel any better, I wasn't impressed by the Kayzer demo.

This Kayzer demo?

:idk:

As with any Kayzer demo, it all sounds like Kayzer. :snax:

Yes, besides the noisey knob turning bit at the end, the sounds didn't excite me.

I don't know if it's his guitars, or his choice of amps or playing style--but every pedal sounds the same to me when he plays through them. All modulations sound the same. Hell, he makes most fuzzes sound like metal distortions. I don't get it.

Yes. And I don't want to turn this into a bash Kayzer thread because I appreciate anyone who takes the time to make a demo. I like hearing different styles and interpretations. I was just saying this demo didn't get me excited for my personal uses.

Eh, I mean, I didn't expect this to be the be all end all. It does what I used the WV for and can get some other cool tones. And purple.

I genuinely believe the next demo will blow my balls off.

i thought parts of that were ok but i think Kayzer's demos would sound a lot better if the guitar was something a little more lively than a PRS, those things sound super dull to me but my experience is somewhat limited and i don't like humbuckers in the first place so :idk:
it's pretty obvious at least that it can get thick but the mix can dial the wobbliness back so it's not too in your face. and the oscillation possibilities are killing almost everything else around. i'm sure it's a swell pedal.

For once I don't mind if Knobs demos this pedal because I already bought one. He can only show me cool settings now.
