yeah, you should bring your ped in for a checkup... i have an rv-3 and there is no sound dropout that you speak of.

Love my BF-2!!! Sounds amazing on bass and cuts through better than any chorus and most phasers I've owned.

I used an ODB-3 for a long time back when I was much younger and the bass fuzz options were a lot more limited than they are today.

I like Boss products. I'm currently only using their MT-2 though. Most people don't know how to use the Metal Zone and therefore don't like it. The secret to avoiding the fizzy bee's nest sound is to roll back on the gain knob.. keep it around 10 o'clock. My MT-2 settings are Level 12 o'clock, Treble 2 o'clock, Bass 4 o'clock, Middle 10 o'clock, Mid Freq 2 o'clock, Dist 10 o'clock. All chunk and no mess.

Other Boss pedals i've owned are:

OC-2 - this octave pedal tracks nicely
DS-1 - Nirvana sound
SD-2 - great dual overdrive, one stage is real bluesy, the other stage is fuzzy. I would buy this again.
CE-3 - very effective stereo chorus, but a little shrill sounding
DF-2 - a DS-1 with the added option of feedbacking
OS-2 - the overdrive stage of this pedal is shrill and useless, but to my ears the distortion stage is like a DS-1 with more balls
CS-3 - fine compressor
RV-3 - great combination of delay and reverb, but the sound dropout when the pedal is switched on/off is a deal breaker
RV-5 - offers the best modulated reverb i've heard so far
DD-5/DD-6/DD-7 - great delays, tons of features
BF-2 - pretty good flanger after i played with the trimpots inside
AC-2 - terrible thin acoustic guitar simulator

Thank you! I'm actually selling the OS-2 right now on eBay. When I started playing, all I could afford was a DS-1 and some crap like a DOD Grunge pedal. I found this OS-2 awhile ago used, and when it's on full distortion, it's definitely a "ballsier" DS-1. (Probably how a DS-2 sounds, from what I've heard). But the Overdrive setting on the OS-2 is complete garbage, and nobody ever calls that out! I've actually avoided trying pedals like the SD-1 Super Overdrive because I assumed that it just sounded like the overdrive on my OS-2 - thin and useless!

The more I think about it, the Boss ST-2 Power Stack (which I'm trying to find used) is really an updated, digital mod version of the OS-2. http://bossarea.com/loadpage.asp?file=boxes/st2.xml It goes from a crunch overdrive to a much higher gain distortion (or overdrive, I guess), but it does a much better job than the OS-2. If the OS-2 really did what it claims it does, think about it: it would go down as one of the more popular BOSS pedals ever, but that really isn't the case.

(I will try those settings for the Metal Zone. I actually really love that pedal, for virtually all the reasons I DON'T love the OS-2)

Nah man, over here (Sweden) at least the ps3 is super expensive. I'd love to get one but there's not a chance I'm plonking down that money.

yeah, you should bring your ped in for a checkup... i have an rv-3 and there is no sound dropout that you speak of.

What's a sound dropout? Meaning it lowers in volume? I've never had any issues with mine and I've owned it nearly 10 years.

got the metal zone from the ebays today and it I am pleasantly suprised
the EQ makes it crazy versatile and it can push an amp
it doesn't really do a CLEAN boost more of a dirty boost or a mid boost actually but it works well

playing my strat and a cheap squier amp. I think that maybe through a big nice tube amp this would be a less impressive pedal but through a practice amp it is a friggen beast

Cool - so want to try this out but can't justify the expense at the moment. Probably mentioned it 65 fucking times in this thread, but that's pretty much the Crowbar sound - "clean" metal zone pushing a big tube amp.

I noticed that too the metal zone sounds kind of vaguely good on a practice amp but absolutely horrid through a tube amp!

I've had my BF2 forever. It's taken a few beatings and I've never had to worry about it. Plus, it sounds great. I recently grabbed an OC2 for my bass rig, and it does exactly what I need it to. That one's probably a keeper too. Currently looking for a TU2 or 3 for something more mobile than my rack tuner. I typically don't get all excited for Boss pedals, but once I get my hands on them, they tend to stick around.

I never thought having a tu2 on my board would be so awesome but being in tune all the time is a beautiful thing!
