It was just a cash value so you could buy someone a present for Christmas or their birthday if you knew they wanted a piece.
Shops occasionally do flash days as well where, if you're prepared to camp out and get a one off you pick from a set designed for the day you can get some pretty good prices.
Makes it fun if you're into that.
