For modulation and time based effects like verb / delay that you don't want effected byt he amp EQ. IMO verb and delay sound more real and full in an effects loop than before an amp. I run my amp really dark so delay trail clarity and overall verb clarity get heavily effected in a negative way. And if you run amp dirt then its pretty much a necessity for delays and verb unless your the type that would run them predirt on your board to begin with.
yah, FX loops are really useful! Great for weaker output or vintage pedals you want to boost..

Conky, that suck about the wrist man...hope the it heals well and quick!

On the phaser question...the current P90's dont have a good sweep in my opinion...the script reissues are ok, but i think the evh ones are the best especially with the vintage switch engaged it sounds very close to the P90's of the 80's, more so than the reissues to my ears anyway.

I mean, the real answer is for "effects you want run at line level," but that's not the point.

How does the small stone nano compare to the mxr phasers?

Conky, sorry to hear about this, that blows. Playing devils advocate, have you checked your non-surgical options? I've had some friends who have had CTS with varying results - the best results were with the folks who did crazy amounts of PT post op, but even then, it changed stuff pretty bit time for them.

My only experience has been on bass, don't usually use phaser on guitar, but I personally prefer the Small Stone Nano. I liked the sweep a little better, it sounded a little "deeper" and it fixed a couple issues I had with the Phase90. No volume drop when I kicked it in and it has a switch for two different modes depending on how strong you want the effect to be. I got mine because I was interested in the Small Stone over the Phase 90 I had at the time and was looking at a modded version from Analogman. When I looked it up he noted that he stopped doing the mod, because the Nano version addressed all the issues and was really affordable. I like mine a lot, I generally use it in the effects loop of my Dunwich preamp. I think some guitarists might like the Phase 90 better, since it seems brighter, but I like the Small Stone Nano better on bass because of the darkness/deepness of it.

I use it at 3:54 on this song, but it's subtle, because I'm also running a parallel rig with just fuzz. It can be really overpowering for my taste when way upfront in the mix.

ive been usin the small stone on low side of rig
kinda lets me blend it out a bit
the bonus is it sounds awesome
i think i may do the vol mod myself on it
i have a few things that really suck the life out my shit
more has to do with positions of vol knobs
but the SS v4 you get a serious bump when you shut it off
writing that out i realize i could use that to my benefit

I have had carpal tunnel since I was about 21 or 22. I got a job in a factory making porcelain sinks, counter tops, and toilets and all I did all day long was put on and take off C clamps on the molds. I bet I did about a thousand a day or more. I got it then and after I left that job I saw a doctor a few times. I've worn a wrist brace to sleep and throughout the day when it would get bad but for the past 3 months my thumb, index, and middle fingers have been asleep and numb feeling. I had a nerve conduction test done and it's pretty bad. The doctor and the guy who did the test said that if I didn't do anything about it that I'd most likely have permanent nerve damage within a year and a half / two years. The good news is that if I have this done he said i had an excellent chance of being back to playing guitar, drums like it never happened within a year.

Well I really hope the surgery helps.

I currently have the nano, just wondering how it compares. This is on bass.

I'm thinking of replacing the 15s in my sunn 215bh. I need some suggestions.

Dude much fuckin mojo sent! I've only got 80% usage of my left hand due to having a grape sized cyst in my wrist for 6 years and then tendon damage from the surgery to remove it, that's why I play low n slow. I hope you make a quick and full recovery!!!

If your looking for a simple cost effective delay its hard to go wrong with a CC.
