I have a buddy that has asked me to provide the space and the players to start a new musical project. A combination of everyone's ideas, but a certain tonal goal. Part of that goal for him was these two amplifiers. I am one lucky sumabitch

My whole setup for the next couple months, minus my strat. The Roland SB-50 was my first amp, and pretty not-bassy for a bass amp. The giant taped-up speakers were acquired for $5 at a yard sale and excel only at pushing out massive amounts of dirty low end. Run together, the results aren't bad. I only get to crank it when everyone is out of the house, though, which isn't often. Chain is CC/DC -> Algal Bloom -> Boost RVB -> TU-2, with one output going to the SB-50, the other going to the Singularity -> random hi-fi amp found in my basement -> giant shitty speakers. There's a second speaker off to the left that isn't up and running yet due to lack of proper cables.

I would love to hear how your setup sounds. do you get much buzz fuzzy stuff with the taped up speaker?

At low volumes, there's no buzz at all; it's just super bass-y and round sounding. Past noon it starts to get unhappy. I'll try to get some clips the next time I've got the place to myself.

They are both MXL's the blue one is cheap the turquoise one is a bit more expensive, I think. But the blue one is a relatively cheap ribbon mic. If you have any questions about ribbons, feel free to ask me.

I actually don't have one, a friend of mine does, I'm just very microphone "savy" (or knoledgable and stuff). I just read the write up about that mic, and they do that because Ribbon mics are extremely sensitive, even more so than condensers, so when the sound it's micing is too loud the actual ribbon will burst, ruining the mic. So they made this mic with the intentions of micing things live, or like it said in the write up, wind instruments, which are really loud, as compared to a guitar amp which can controlled much more easily. It said it can take 130 db at 1kh, which is really midrange, so you might want to turn up your amp more, but only a little, since you always run the risk of bursting the ribbon it's self. Also since it's a figure 8 polar patter, it "atracts" sound from the front in a cradiod way and from the back in a cardiod way, so you could try covering the back or something so you're not picking up room noise from behind. Also upon further reading, the mic has a "bump" or thrives at 5kh which is where alot of stringed (classical: violin, viola, cello, Upright Bass) thrive. Also the review I read said the same thing that it has a relatively low output and that you'd need a good preamp, I'd reccomend turning the gain way up on your mixer and turning the actual volume of the mic down, it's liek turning up the sensetivity so it will be louder thus having to turn down the volum. Also for guitar amps, this may not be the best ribbon mic, although it could be really nice on strings like I said or as a room mic, especially a room mic-set it in the middle of the room, since it has a figure 8 pattern and 130 db of "resistance" you could record really nice band practices with it.

I'd reccomend checking out the Cascade microphone company, their ribbons are used by Steeley Dan (a favorite of mine) and although they're more expensive it's your tone that's being captured so as not to muddy it up any price is really worth it.

Ran a dual amp setup today via the stereo out of the Boss DD-2. When it is bypassed it sends two signals out, thus the two amps.

My main rig is:
1972 Fender Bassman into Avatar Vintage Cab with Jensen C12K (I think that is what it is called), also a handmade cabinet with an old Peavey speaker.
