okayso, maybe the harmonies aren't as exotic as Ellington/Strayhorn, but dag the rhyhmic invention in those horn charts (shout out Sy Oliver); the tightness of the execution; the crispness of that guitar - the recording as a whole (how the drums and bass pop out during their showcases) i took a jazz appreciation course in college and the prof was very very high on Lunceford - i believed him then and am reminded like a slap in the face every time i listen - Jimmie L's should be mentioned on the short list of top bands every time, yet he remains a relative unknown to most (not you for sure, Chank) (be back later to throw Fletcher Henderson some love too)
hope this hasn't been posted before (def seen a fair bit of AB on here, often from me, or Chank, of course, but don't remember this one in particular) bc it fits in perfectly with my nerdy lil #44 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4zWWJQxZFyo
plus it's a great freqin' album and if you haven't heard it, what's wrong with you?

still can't stream Sam Jones' sweet New Directions album from 1979 (one of three that year!), but these are a nice consolation:
but the last time appears to have been 5 years ago, so this'll catch up the latecomers

Well, let's get real, Dandolin, as with most of these genre-specific threads, you and I (and really not much of the "I" lately ) are the ones most postin' in 'em with occasionally a stray person poppin' in to post or comment.
