mini-necro bump 'cause it's been a grip.

saw all of the rad metal bands at Dark Lord Day yesterday. Kept money spending to a minimum by drinking mostly beers that we packed. Bought a pint of Zombie Dust because it's like Mr. Pibb and Red Vines (see: crazy delicious).

Did, however, come home with two bottles of Dark Lord Russian Imperial Stout for myself and two for a friend.

Gonna sit on these for awhile. Might try to take on to the fest next year (assuming I go) and kill it then amongst friends. It's motor oil thick and not my favorite beer of all times but I felt compelled to buy this year.

Maybe trade one of those bottles for some Heady Topper or something? Dark Lord has a ton of value in beeradvocate and ratebeer trading circles

I'll give ya tree fiddy for it. :D

Drinking a Dirt Wolf at the moment. Goddamn its tasty!

As far as recent really standout beers, have you guys had an Ovila yet? Seirra Nevada's colab abbey style belgian beers. The one I had was a Quad brewed with Plums. Incredibly good, and well priced at 11 for a 4 pack. Gave one to my dad, cellard another, and I might have the other after finals week.

I brew my own generally. I recently picked up the 4 way ipa 12 pack from sierra nevada. The session ipa in there was quite a surprise, it was really tasty. The black ipa was disappointing, too much taste from the dark malts

I think Founders KBS is the best that it's ever been this year. I was reading a big huge book and just savoured the KBS and it took me two hours to drink.

Red's Rye is an amazing beer and you should try it on tap if you can. Very VERY good.

Right now I'm finishing up an Arrogant Bastard by Stone. That's still a good beer, but Ruination's quality has declined over the last few years.

I love Red's Rye. It was one of the first Founders beers I got into. When I was first starting to hit the craft breweries in Grand Rapids I went to Founders when it was in its old location that was significantly smaller and I had, for my first beer there, the Curmudgeon. At the time I had to ease myself into some other things as that was a bit much for my PBR loving palette.

I love good beer, but still frequently drink High Life 40s to stay in touch with my inner trailer park. Fuck PBR. High Life all day.

Omnipollo (which of course translates to "The All Chicken") Fatamorgana. This is one of the best IPAs I've ever had. Smells like Heady and is up there in flavor.

Update:

I'm extremely happy that there was over half of the All Chicken beer left in that bottle because goddamn

I've bought more Coors Extra Gold than anything else in my life. It's cheap and goes down quick. Plus after ten of them I can still function.

My uncle got married in Asheville, NC a couple years ago and there was an open bar with Highland brewery stuff flowing freely all night. I drank Gaelic Ale till I couldn't stand. Wonderful stuff.

Not a big Corona guy, but they make Negra Modelo, which I consider one of the most underrated beers on earth. That has become my standard beer that I get when I go to a liquor store where they don't have a craft section and I need to get a regular mass-produced beer.
