AKA Modern Capitalism :p

The idea of profit and the individual above all else are ideals that Friedman/Chicago School (the ideal economic model for many republicans and democrats alike) capitalism teach, that you just look out for you and only you and the markets will do the rest. "Oh our companies are polluting the planet, exploiting people and reaping all the benefit? We could change that but it would dip in to the profits."

Businesses do charity to make more money, it's not out of the good of their hearts, it's marketing.

Capitalism only really works in a vacuum where everyone has the same opportunities (which definitely is not the case in the US) and people aren't giant greedy fucks (also a ton of those in the US). It's still a more 'efficient' model on aggregate and promotes quicker technological development, just at the cost of giant income and wealth disparities.

And it would be even more efficient if there weren't the token laws and preventative measures we still have in place. Cheerful stuff, really.

Was stupid enough to read through the comments section of an article my newspaper posted on facebook. This Norwegian city has a programme that helps people who rent appartments to be able to buy a house. The example family that were interviewed were immigrants. 80% of the commenters hadn't read the article, and were solely criticizing that immigrants get all the benefits. The programme was for anybody renting in the city, regardless of etnicity. It was mentioned several times by people who had actually read the article, but the commenters kept disregarding it. :picard:

Are you implying that being a xenophobe d-bag is inherent to being an illiterate troglodyte?

That's the internet for you. The people with all of the privilege also do most of the complaining.

You'd think Norwegians would have learned by now. They did the same damn thing when nobody knew who was behind the terror attack three years ago. "LET'S GO FUCK UP SOME MUSLIMS! Oh, he wasn't muslim? And he's white as snow? NM then..."

Once, I was having a very nice conversation with someone I had recently met. We were a bunch having a drink and all and it was nice. A couple people came in and he dropped the atomic bomb on us: "I hate Roms, you know they blatantly ignore our customs and our way of life, they're thieves, they break into places and steal...". That's kinda the equivalency of an American saying "I hate niggers, they are loud an thuggy and they drive crime up".

Yeah shits about to get worse but dems and republicans are both fucking evil crooks. I doubt that will ever change without an extremely violent revolution or some massive world war that sets the US back, otherwise the machine of unfettered capitalism will continue to churn on.

Look sign me up for communism any day of the week but until "never gonna happen" becomes "maybe gonna happen" there are people suffering in America and the Republicans make it worse than the Democrats do.
