Hmm... this is true. So why hasn't anyone made a quad of KT88's go down to 1 watt with VVR before? Is it just too hard?

Why would you want to take kt88s down to 1 watt?!

For 'teh bluez' in my beach condo with my Timmy and PRS.

Why bother?

I don't know. It just sounds like a fun idea.

Is there anyone making 2 x kt88 100 watt bass amps around? Been toying with starting on building an amp and it seems for what I need power wise around 100 would be enough but would like the extra low end of the kt 88s. Also 100 watt iron is a lot cheaper and more common than 200. Might even be able to salvage the iron somewhere.
Also for the amp nerds looks like I'm finally getting the Nolan amp in the next few days. Hopefully just needs a new power lead..

Thanks for the pickup suggestions guys. It'll be awhile until I can fund it because I have to pay off some medical bills but putting new pickups in my LP and getting the blown speaker replaced in my other Emperor cab are at the top of the list.

You need the right 100W setup, an OT with a 2k-2.2k primary rated for 100W in bandwidth and a PT with something like 400-0-400 secondaries @ 500mA otherwise you will not pull 100W RMS. So salvage iron may not be useful. A normal 100W PT for say an EL34 amp will not suffice.

You also would need a very very beefy VVR circuit because while your only putting out 1W its absorbing the rest of the power from your supply to lower the voltages across the board.

Hmmm, I thought this might be the case. All that power has to dissipate somewhere.
I love amp/pedal talk. Speaking of which, I think I'm going to order my first pedal build. I'm looking at Madbean. I'd like to try their Buzzaround circuit. What do you think? It's one I haven't played yet, and I love the sound of all the clips I've heard from the various different builders and their variations. I could have an enclosure etched by an ilovefuzz local. I have ideas for designs.

buzzaround is a nice circuit. Only thing to remember is that the original version is a Ge PNP with a 9V ground so either you will use a battery with it only or an iso'd supply or build a NPN Si version

Fired it up again, sounded SWEEET. Sigh. Gonna see how it holds up as we work on this new project, but also keep an eye out. Bassman 135 or Sovtek Mig (60 is handwired, but some 50s show up in those awesome natural housings) is pretty much all I'm going for. That JMP I played for the Galaxicon shows last month was sweeeeeeeeet, but I can't swing that kind of cash. And honestly, when I can I'm just gonna have Nick build me one that's reliable as fuck.
Unless I buy Conky's Redbear. YOU HEAR THAT CLIFTON?
Kinda late to the party... I just came back after a few days and had to catch up. I've got a 60 and a 120 watter. Take your pick. I actually pulled the 120 watter out of the closet two days ago and ran it for about 30 minutes. Forgot how awesome they sounded.
Also, I think I wanna change out the crappy EMGs in my LP Standard. I really like the stock pickups in y Orville by Gibson LP Custom. I believe they are 57 Classics or some PAF styled pickup. I want a similar tone so should I go with something like a Duncan Distortion (if its good enough for Scott Kelly, it must be good enough for me) or Dimarzio 36th anniversary? I hear a lot of good shit about them. I know I'll have to replace all the pots in there too, so what recommendations do you guys have?
Pulling those EMGs sounds like one of the best decisions possible. The absolute best decision possible is sending me that Orville though
I'm also pretty intrigued by that multi tube amp posted. If the price is right and it doesn't sound like shit I may have to take a closer look once they are released. Which realistically means that one (or both) requirements will not be met, so I will be looking for something else to gas over.

If you have a general 100W amp, with say 4 El34s you can sub in any of the following tubes:
6l6GC, Kt77, 6ca7 or 2 Kt88s (impedance doubling) or 4 Kt66s (~impedance doubling). You can try 6550s but the problem there becomes the power supply. Small changes to bias supply might be needed for KT88s but on the whole the all can work.
