Just happened to take a photo today as I was recording more demos. This is the guitar rig mic'd up with a Shure SM57 and Sennheiser e609.

I would think this would be a guitar head.

Clearly I am wrong.

I like it, but I don't think it replaces the SM57. The way I could really tell, was I tested both of them on bass. The SM57 has more low-end and it's tighter and more focused.

On guitar, they are very similar and I don't think you'll hear a big difference. The reason I use both, is just to get a fuller sound. I usually put the SM57 right up against the grill and the Sennheiser about and inch or two back.

yea, i would be recording guitar mostly, no bass amp, if theyre not too different, i may get the e609 next chance i get some extra cash for a mic, might as well try another mic out

I've used both and I like the 57 much better, it has more low end and is more focused than the e609, I usually pick up other instruments and such with the e609 since it really only sounds good a few inches back from the grill. I'd gow with the 57 over the e609. Also considering that if you ever want to record something besides for guitar, the 57 will sound better all around than the e609. Also I'd check out the Audix I5 or the Electrovoice N/D748 both are much better than the e609 and different than the 57, the Audix i5 sounds better on snare than the 57, and the N/d748 is much more detailed than the 57, but it's $20 more. So pick your poison however you like, but I'd stay away from the e609. :thumb:

I have a friend that records a SHITTON of bands, and actually, the e609 on bass is a secret weapon of his. He did it once because he was lazy and just slapped a mic on the bass cab, and it ended up sounding great, especially when mixed with a condenser.

I use the e609 and SM57 combo as well and I love 'em both pretty equally. They sound totally different (as described above) but pairing 'em sounds fucking A good! Just got the 57 from my SS (theactionindex rulez ) first one I've ever owned amazingly.

Here's my amp.
Bogner Duende 1 X 12 combo 15 watt.

To me chanel A, sound like a dark Fender deluxe reverb... tweedy in some setting. It is pedal friendly :) .
Channel B (which I'm not using much) have lots of gain (dumble style).
And you can combine channel A + B which I'm using for a boost.
It have a great reverb and a tremolo which is cool.
