Listened to those last three albums and really digging it. There was a time when I was doing two samplers and the keyboard that controlled them also created sound and I was in similar territory but not near as disciplined. If that makes any sense.

I get that the op-1 is creating a lot of the initial sound, I have one and know its sound. What are you doing with the other two samplers? Those are samplers, correct?

So for those three on the bandcamp I must admit it is mostly OP-1 all the way through, a lot of sampling of an acoustic guitar and household items. I was using the op-1 a lot as a looper in the tape mode. Sometimes it is also nice to use the Octatrack purely for timing the sample to a perfect 4 bar loop with the recording trigs and all that. Or to make a pattern that utilizes all the glitching capabilities on the octatrack and record it to the OP-1 tape for instance.

However, the upcoming one is using some Orca (the program running on the computer), the SP202 is also used a lot more actively and it is split 50/50 on recording through the octatrack and the OP-1. The microgranny has some fun hiphop acapellas I sometimes use when I make hiphop beats because it is fun to try to time them, but I have not used it a lot for recording lately.

Oh yes Orca is super fun. It looks daunting but its just trying things out and eventually you get lots of happy accidents. I recommend trying with the Pilot synth (not midi, its over UDP which is... something else idk) to start with, but it works with anything midi as well.

Oh yes that is the designer of Orca! He has lot of these videos up. It definitely is really worth trying out.

As fascinating as I find it, it is probably not a rabbit hole for me unless I could find a way to have it control slices of loops of real-time guitar playing and drumming. I started recently trying to use Buffer Shuffler and J74 Sliceshuffler in Live for this but it isn't quite working. Circular Labs Mobius will slice loops but I don't think there is a way to assign the slices to midi notes.

It makes me so sad that you have that cool stereo mixer and record to mono
