It 100% is a dumb made-up word that’s meant to sound like “add in/an echo”! And it’s not even their original idea! It’s based on the Tel-Ray Add-n-echo/Adineko oil can echo units from the 60’s!
So while it is kind of a goofy name, the Catalinbread pedal is at least in tribute to the original effect on which it’s based. Those wacky dudes from the 60’s can maybe blame LSD.

At first blush, I don't really mind the name of that Fucking Fucker up there, but that artwork is pretty embarassing, and does sort of make me feel stupid for not minding the name.

I remember when I was a young teen I wanted a big muff and a super hard one because I saw the pros using them... I literally had no idea what they meant and threw my parents for a bit of a loop haha
Most other zvex names I find to be ok, at least they don't seem to be totally unrelated to the effect itself like most ehx names
One pedal name that bugs me personally is the caroline shigeharu, but that's partly just because the japanese on the front doesn't even spell out the name lol

I kinda feel like EQD has been coming up with the most vanilla names recently too. Westwood, Plumes, Swiss things.
Their older stuff has great names: dispatch master, bit commander, organizer, tentacle, rainbow machine etc
