You are most welcome any time. If you come to Toronto we can show you around. Italian sandwiches, dive bars, secret pawn shops.... you name it!

Legit might take you up on that in 2020. Need you to show me the grind / noisecore shows.
I almost made the pilgrimage to SKULL SKATES to hang out with THE RITA when I was in Vancouver (I used to talk to him all the time via E-mail, it would not have been that weird) but it was like an hour ride from where I was and I wanted to enjoy the city. Honestly, maybe top three day in 2018 for me.

As someone who lives just outside of Toronto, I would like to know about these secret pawn shops

I don’t have a ton of great new leads currently - but Pawn Stars at Danforth and Dawes has a huge section of musical gear - their effects selection is okay - but I’ve struck gold on a Peavey Bass IV head and a matching 115 for $149 and some solid tools. There’s a ton on Church Street always worth poking around in, and a few others I pop into.

But I tell you the sight of that Mark IV Peavey sitting there was like hearing the angels sing.

Thanks, I'll have to have a look next time I'm in the city. Pawn shops out here rarely have anything of value; most music gear usually seems overpriced.

Keeping it balanced... this was an unfavorable review for Harley Benton (you people here that have talent and are professionals will find the criticisms valid... I do too but... actually none of the stuff he says would bother me  )

I got a chance to hang with Sam a little when he played here last weekend - he is a legit lovely person and all around rad dude. I’d love to visit PDs Hot Shop sometime.

He really is the best. I should hit him up again soon. I think he still has some shirts in stock. I actually have this movie he made some where in my "box of noise". He cut up a bunch of obscure slasher films, presumably that he taped off bootlegs and Canadian Television. Some of the scenes are gory as fuck. Brilliant!!!

I visited LAKE SHARK yesterday after not seeing what was up for probably 3 years now. His new obsession seems to be an old one THE OCEAN!

It's kind of funny that he's really into Viking Metal too. And Neon Genesis... we had a lot to talk about  Good times!

They just screened the Rita guy's giallo mixtape somewhere in NYC recently—I think it's the first time it's been shown in a theater. I was bummed to have missed that show at See-Scape last weekend, but I was otherwise engaged. Speaking of TO pawn shops, the one just up the street from See Scape on Dundas West in the Junction is pretty good. They have a huge old solid state Yamaha amp sitting on the floor as well as one of those Trace Elliott rebranded as Gibson amps (goldtone? something like that...).

I was just in that pawn shop on Dundas West! No effects though, unless I somehow missed them. They used to have a bunch on display.

Another pawn shop paradise is the one right next to the Gladestone. They’ve got a ton of stuff, a lot of tools, two stores worth of stuff. I try to pop in if I’m ever in trendy downtown but I’ve never bought anything from them.

The Universe love and hates me... so pieces of my "dream gear" are popping up now and cheaper than ever.

This may be Saturday's acquisition.

I was going to post this in the purple thread but Chank's thread is too wholesome for my musings.

Another flipper. He used the quote, "There aren't many out there."

This is the closest I've come to send a message to one. Mine would simply read (please note, I'm not doing this. This is not my calling in the universe).

"There are plenty out there dumbass. There are still more in stock on the company's website."

I've been sending messages to several annoying people recently. I censor the language, because if I got a temporary suspension from Reverb that would really fuck me over. Also, I try to be a bit ambiguous about my intentions sometimes to keep the real dodos off balance.

Ex 1: So I could give you $450, or I could give this other guy (link included) $225 for a unit in better condition...what am I missing here? Please explain it in a way that a child could understand.

Ex 2: $700, eh? Cool. When I buy it, are you going to tell me which celebrity owned it?

seller: It wasn't celebrity owned.

me: Oh, so you're just crying to screw people over? OK, I understand. No further explanation needed.

Ex 3: (for a pedal that was $300 new and is certainly not a museum-grade collector's item that could justify such an absurd increase)

$800, huh? I think you're selling yourself short, guy. You probably out to put another zero on the end and talk more about rarity, tone mythology, and your cat's leukemia.

Ex 4: (guy has a cheesy drum machine for $850 that's arguably not worth $150) Hey man. Did you see this listing? Someone else has it for $250. You should hurry up and buy it, so you can inflate the price on it, too. Just thought I'd give you a heads-up, before anyone else sees it.

Lol. I must've wrote 10 emails and hit delete. The most recent one and the action I REALLY want to take is to make an offer of $100 with a note of saying..."You are asking $125 more than the website itself, so I am offering $125 less than the actual price to help balance the universe...you scum sucking bottom feeder d.bag flipper...get a job or go scalp sneakers you toolbox. If you want to rip off other people's hard work, at least do the soldering or put it in a different box...or open a store, work out a distro deal, earn your B mark and be legit. You are just playing off of others' stupidity, why not make a fake gofundme about a sick relative if you are just looking to scam people out of their money. I hope whomever in your life that actually supports you gets scammed out of all of their money and you are left with nothing."

I like echorec's approach a lot (not that I don't admire the craftsmanship in comicevan's oeuvre). I may start doing that as it's basically a free writing workshop

"Criticism Of Margins In The Secondary Pedal Market" can become a new form of fan fiction.
