Was just reading about these today. Other than overcooking, how was the flavor? What'd you do with them?Chankgeez wrote:
OK, I just tried this. Not sure I'm that impressed.
I think I "overcooked" it a bit. Will go for slightly more al dente the next time. We'll see if I like it any better then.

Re: What are you cooking?
The flavor was kinda bland. I expected it to be a little more "chickpea" tasting.
I just added a little tomato paste and some oregano and crushed red pepper. So, nothing too special in the preparation.
Wasn't too bad actually, but next time I need to watch the cooking time more carefully. I like pasta al dente anyway, but some non-wheat pastas have a tendency to fall apart easily.
I also tried some of this recently:

I think I like it a little better than the Banza. It has a bit more flavor. It gets really foamy in the pot while cooking though.
I also bought another brand of chickpea-based pasta. So, I'm gonna try that once I'm done with this box of Banza.

i realize buying a 5 lb sack of spuds is easy work but growing them didn't take much effort at all and the taste was superior for sure. farmer's market is definitely the next best thing.sylnau wrote:I get my vegetable directly from a farmer. Made this awhile back. Turned out surprisingly well, considering it was the first time I'd really cooked in more than a decade.
If I do it again - say in 2021 or so - I'll probably use a different cut of beef. The flank has gotten pricey, and wasn't as tender as I would've liked.

In case anyone's interested, I tried this and liked it better than the Banza chickpea pasta:

I love the classic cilantro chutney with chicken, just as a dipping sauce kind of thing. Easy to make, tons of recipes online:

If you're thinking more "classic" mango chutney (not sure how this one gained the most traction), I've never had bad luck just buying a jar from the grocery store. Maybe someone else can chime in with a specific brand

That looks like a great all purpose sauce, I am definitely going to make that.
I picked up a jar of date and cumin chut, tastes very warm and spicy and not too sweet. Not sweet at all really. Gonna put this on a hummus sandwich maybe with a bit of honey.

My mum makes a fantastic rhubarb chutney, which isn't something you often see but it works brilliantly in sandwiches. Worth a try making some.

It definitely is! It's the typical one that comes to your table at an Indian restaurant with a sweeter tamarind chutney and flatbread or whatever dipping vehiclefriendship wrote:That looks like a great all purpose sauce, I am definitely going to make that.

Or at least that's the typical US thing—not sure where you are, Friendship. Being in the UK, Monkeydancer has a lottttttt better Indian food options. Jealous!

Re: What are you cooking?
Interesting. At Indian restaurants in the UK, with papadums you'll generally get mango chutney, cucumber raita, lime pickle (best thing ever) and a wild card, often onion based. And yeah, we do have some wonderful Indian food here.popvulture wrote:It definitely is!
