not even good as a stimulating sonic/visual experience?

The visuals were ok. It was a coolish light show. Other than that, I felt like it was a waste of time.

I can't say anything about live but I'm REALY digging the new tunes. Satellite is bad ass.

I saw them yesterday. It was fun. Last time I saw them was when they toured with qotsa. Not as good as that show obviously. Explosions was what I expected... Meh. I grabbed their new vinyl and dig that, but they aren't a band I want to see live. The quiet songs off the new Nin album surprisingly were my favorite live.

jwar wrote:Saw NIN last night and I can honestly say I'm getting old. God damn it. I was sooooooooooo fucking bored. The music was good except that Explosions in the Sky bullshit. Jesus those guys suck. 3 fucking guitars all with reverb and delay, no fucking drummer (drum machine) and one of the guitarist would hit a drum every once in awhile. NO BASS PLAYER. WUT??? Bitch you tripping. Plus the songs were like 9 minutes long and sounded like pure garbage. So disappointed in that band. I would have booed if there weren't so many drunk and stoned people around me.

Reznor's performance was tired and drab. I don't know what I expect, but I certainly was not wowed. I left an hour early because I was so fucking bored. I expected high energy and instead got a bunch of melodic bullshit. So fucking pissed off.

The worst things about the evening for me:
drunk stupid fucks getting up and down constantly to get more beer or to go to the bathroom
people smoking weed right next to me (yes I get it's a concert, but there is no fucking smoking at the venue and I'm tired of dumb asses who don't give a shit about how I feel about them using drugs around me)
the lack of energy from both bands
and the pa being WAY too fucking loud. I mean it was overkill how loud they had that shit.

Oof, not my experience at all!
EITS had a drummer, and a bass player in Minneapolis, and I really enjoyed them. And I thought NIN put on a hell of a show. Sorry you had a shit time, dude!

I'm gonna see this tonight. pretty stoked. Nin is one (if not only) band I ever enjoy in a big hockey arena.

I honestly thing my whole issue would have been solved with better sound guys running the show. I've seen NIN many times before and it never sounded this bad. Hopefully they fired those sound guys.

I could get into the EITS stuff, had it not be soooooooooooo ear piercing. Maybe it's because I'm a bass player and so used to the lows that the highs just fuck my head up now.

just got back from the show.

EITS... yeeesh. all the guitars were EQ'd in a weird way to be able to differentiate them from each other. not good tones.
they had a live drummer, but boy was it boring and not a good sound.

NIN. sound was GREAT. really dynamic. Loud songs were LOUD but the entire show wasn't crazy loud the entire time - Just right so people don't get ear fatigue.
the low end in songs like The Wretched was top notch.
Typical nin, all the new songs got the super visual treatment with the special light screens.
They played something from every era, both pig songs back to back.
Somewhat Damaged & Wish were my highlight.

6th song in (after the two pig songs) they played All Time Low, with back up female vocalists. at first I found that really weird.
as the set progressed I started appreciating their presence more.
can I fault trent for these dancy songs? - the man white rapped on his first single. the man plays solo piano interludes. he's allowed to experiment.

at the beginning of the evening I had the idea that this was going to be my last NIN concert (I've seen them every time they've been in montreal since 1995). But i'll be going to the next one. it's just that good - still.

Just got back from seeing NIN for the fifth time, I was really surprised at how much of a show they still put on. This light show was one of the best I have seen, a lot of the design and concepts were similar to HTDA when I saw them a few months ago. The sound was excellent and the dynamics and buildups, outro's, and timing was pretty dead on like every show I've seen. I have been listening to the new album a lot and just can't seem to get into it. I thought the backup soul singers were really cool and for even deeper one of the girls went off into a very wild opera, ambient outro. I think they still got it, but for me the new stuff is weird, Trent has incorporated a lot of funk! Lol but whatever, the classics were played and they were awesome :yay:

I avoided this thread because I knew I was seeing them on Tuesday. I've never seen them live and it was everything I hoped it would be. The visuals were perfect for the music. The band was hella tight and looked like they loved what they were doing. The sound was as good as it could be considering it was a basketball arena. NIN have solidified their place in my heart forever.

EITS? the fuck is that shit? I've never been so bored and I'm in an instrumental band. Everything down to their body language irritated me. I guess I'm just not a post-rocker.

I've heard it said that Explosions is to post-rock what STP is to grunge music,.

I like that. I love post rock but find EITS boring most of the time.

See, for me, it's the opposite--I heard EITS after Mogwai, Godspeed!, Do Make Say, etc.

Mandatory props for all people in all kinds of bands, but I was NOT A FAN.
