Re: Just Jazz!
love that of course bc Tchicai, but the whole thing is solid
let's head back south again - Czech these out:
1961, the biggest big band in Czechoslovakia, pretty proto stuff, featuring Karel Velebný on vibes on the MJQ classic, the variously named Taneční Orchestr Čs. Rozhlasu Řídí Karel Krautgartner (a/k/a The Karel Krautgartner Orchestra):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-BhD4mbuL0
recorded just before the Prague Spring and released just after it, this Karel Velebný-led effort, SHQ, features a whole lotta woodwind love, with both Karel and Jiří Stivín, who features below, doubling it up big time on an assortment of saxes and flutes:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jtNh3wAiJfA
later, Jiří Stivín's bringing some fusion with Modrý Efekt, a/k/a The Blue Effect, a band better known with progheads:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzIpANrK-6w
and later still, a mix of fusion and third stream from Jiří on a variety of woodwinds and synths:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JO4mKrPxCUI
couldn't skip Hammer and Vitouš of course, here in the Junior Trio from '64 with Miroslav's brother Alan:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUr7JKpXeKc
this is kinda interesting if a mite dry; featuring George Mraz's old trio-mate Rudolf Dašek (who also worked a bunch with Jiri) on gtr, with Andrew Cyrille as the ringer
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zFs_PySCWNg
and let's conclude our little tour with Mraz, who left and got "big" in the States, but never forgot his roots:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqTitLAhefU
and w/ Billy Hart:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZjnB0i0-F4
dag i didn't plan to go on that long merhumblegrumble

Re: Just Jazz!
I stumbled across this earlier. The music is as excellent as the album cover and the title.

Re: Just Jazz!
a beagle named boogie
i'll admit neither the cover nor the title inspired much confidence in me, but i listened and was surprised - not that i enjoyed a japanese jazz album - that has happened many times - but at how hard hitting it was rhythmically and sonically
i came here this morning hoping to post some Jeremy Steig & Eddie Gomez, especially Rain Forest from 1980 bc Ray Barretto is on it and i'm on a major
son montuno/mambo/bomba/plena/guaracha/pachanga/merengue iow salsa/songo kick, and was re-discovering my Ray Barretto stuffs, so, yeah.
but there's no evidence of a single streamable track from Rain Forest that i can find, so i'll just share the credits:
Jeremy Steig – flute, bass flute, digital delay Mu-Tron biphase, Mu-Tron octave divider
Eddie Gómez − bass
Mike Nock − electric piano, synthesizer (tracks 2-4 & 6)
Karl Ratzer − electric guitar (track 1)
Jack DeJohnette (tracks 2 & 3), Steve Gadd (tracks 1 & 4) – drums
Naná Vasconcelos − cuíca, berimbau, talking drum, shaker, cowbell, triangle, tambourine (tracks 3-5 & 7)
Ray Barretto − congas (tracks 3 & 7)

anyway, as a consolation, here's Shrek's brother and Eddie by themselves with a lot of effects in a better Sunday morning vibe than Rain Forest has (probably)
Full album playlist: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MCnCiKY ... pbkybMb8_o
some nice credits here too:
Jeremy Steig – alto flute, bass flute, Mu-Tron III, Mu-Tron biphase, Mu-Tron octave divider, echoplex, ring modulator
Eddie Gómez − bass
edit: thanks for the JP, Chank - Steel City, yinz
