As fr Bugera's. I hear more and more good about them and less and less bad. the catching on fire thing was a while ago and has long been fixed. My only issue with them (and most other modern amps from the big companys) is this-



Everything you plug into, or touch and adjust is pcb mounted. over time thats going to stress the solder joins and can be a pain in the ass to fix, it's just a longevity thing. I dont hate all pcb's, I just wish they would use old school pots and jacks, with a wire that has some give and flex to the rest of the circuit. I will say that these look much sturdier than some others I've looked into.

Man, Conky's old Red Bear MK60 is on ebay again for a lower starting price and I just wanna be patient and see if it gets listed again for cheaper. But a Red Bear is a good, affordable, loud option, on the subject of cheap doom rigs, no?

redbears are fucking rad as shit but theyre a little lacking in the volume department.

So skullservant has totally inspired me to pick up a guitar and a small tube amp. Just curious about some opinions about a specific one.
I have a guy willing to trade a vox ac4tv for my 301 ACC cab and I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with one. Can be modded and has an ext speaker out. Just hoping it can bring the doom.
As stated before in another thread, vox was good enough for Iommi.

I had a Kustom Defender 5H.
It was pretty good. Stayed reasonably clean at a slightly louder volume. Never really jived with it all that way because it was, much like the Valve Jr., a volume only head.

Musician's Friend ended up blowing out all the Jet Ctiy PicoVavle's for 100$ back in November or something like that. I picked up one of those because it's based on/Designed by the THD dude (Andy Marshall?) and I like it alright. I like having an on amp EQ. It breaks up really early on and is good for bringing on the gain. I'm planning on swapping the tubes out at some point in time in order to clean a little bit more clean at higher volumes.

That being said, I paid that up with my Avatar Vintage 2x12 with Eminence Swamp things and it kept up with a drummer and another guitarist a few nights back. Now, I literally had the master on 10 and was slamming it with a Demon King and a BAT Pharaoh, but it held it's own against an Avatar 4x12 and an Egnater Renegade and a drummer.

I have no experience with the Vox stuff in particular. The lunch box amps seem to be pretty YMMV based on what you get. I'm not pleased as a pig in shit with mine but when it comes to have something that doesn't make my wife want to kill me I feel pretty damn good about it. What I'm saying is... I don't know if I'd trade my ACC 301 for it unless I didn't like the 301 or could never scrape together the cash for another little combo or whatever. The lunchbox stuff is dime a dozen and gaining popularity, new models/features coming out yearly and previous models getting the old price cut.

The Acoustic 301? Well, it's not made anymore so I'm not sure how badly I'd want to trade it for something I could probably get for a good deal on Fleabay, CL, or used.guitarcenter.com.

The 60 water isn't loud enough for gigging to me unless its ran in a dual rig setup. The 120s are loud but not as loud as some 100 watt heads. Like whiskey said, it takes a lot to get that insane low end and volume gets sacrificed. That said, the 120 is acceptable to gig with. I wish I still had that 60 water. It was perfect for recording at my house. The cleans on red bears are damn near unbeatable.

Yeah, I don't want to trade the 301 but I got it as a package with a 370 for a good price. I'm currently at GA for training and I can't take it back with me. It's either find something I can trade for/sell/ or scavenge everything I can and leave it at a dumpster. If I had the time to let it sit on CL for someone who knows what it's worth I would, but I only have 2 weeks. So I'm hoping to put it towards a guitar/amp/fuzz and a few other options, but It's really whatever comes through first.

I'm in GA too. If there's a way to work it out (dunno if in your situation it'd be worth shipping things or whatever) to get your stuff back home later I can hold it for you.

I'd definitely say not worth the price. Big/heavy/not in great shape. Rather turn it into something I can use. I REALLY appreciate the offer.

Gonna be recording the drum tracks to two new songs today. I'm gonna try the recording method Skip posted about before.

Hopefully it will work better than the recording for the 7" we just put out. Another thing I'm gonna do is put my Q2HD up in the room about 5 feet away from the kick drum and see how well it will pick up things. I figure another source for blending toms and overheads can't hurt. Hopefully these two tracks will come out ok. If so they'll fill up one whole side of a 12" to do a split as our next release.

If your gonna be doing the glynn johns method as well as using the q2hd I would suggest using it as a room mic about 5-8ft out directly in front of the kit. Then squash the hell out of it and bring it in under the mix of the other drums to give it a 3d in the room kinda feel to it.

It's a really good method for recording drums when you have limited resources. I used to use a modified version when I first started recording with an 8 track and had limited mics and inputs.

If I found a newer Bugera 1960 for a stupid cheap price, am I allowed to pass? 150 EL34 watts seems like a stupid thing to pass on for less than the cost of my second hand cabinet.

I recorded everything and just listening back through headphones it sounds pretty good so far. I only have one condenser so I put it overhead and then an audix I5 out by the floor tom, audix I5 in the kick, and sm57 on the snare. The q2hd was only about 3 or 4 feet away but that's as far as I could get it from the kit. Our storage unit is 10 x 20. This will be the first time I mess with adding in a "room" mic so what compression ratio should I start with? Hell what kind of compression should I use on all of the drums?
