NGD. Or NGW, just got this last week and I'm in love. 1981 Epiphone Sheraton MIJ. After selling my Gretsch 5120 I've been on the lookout for a Sheraton, preferably a used one in the darker sunburst which they don't offer anymore. Spotted this one on Craigslist for a great price, just 20 min from my house, couldn't believe it. The guy wasn't sure of the year or where it was made, said it was either 81 or 91, he bought it from the orig owner in 97. I wasn't sure myself but knew it was odd because of the tailpiece. I got it home, did some research and found out it's an 81 made in Japan. Apparently they only made them there for a few years before switching to Korea, then China. The guy hadn't played it in over 10 years but after some new strings, fret polish and a bridge adjustment it plays like a friggin dream. Fit and finish are really amazing. Bridge pickup sounds a little weak/microphonic and jack is scratchy so I'm gonna drop in some Gibby pickups and a new wiring harness. Think this one is a keeper.

Pretty! Makes you wonder what kind of awesome stuff people have just tucked away, unused...
One thing is always on my mind regarding semi or ...fully hollowbody guitars -- isn't replacing the electronics a bitch? How do you even do it, pull it into place with fishing line or something?

Thanks! I feel lucky, kinda right place at the right time which is very rare for me. Really fell in love with it when I saw it. Not usually a fan of gold hardware but I think it works with this one.

Yeh, I think most of the 60s and 70s finds have probably been found, now it's the 80s and 90s that might be still tucked under beds. Probably more apt to find deals on Craigslist tho than ebay, at least that's my experience. This guy said he hadn't touched it in over 10 yrs and it showed, luckily it was stored in a decent Gibson case. Only has a couple tiny dings and minimal wear on the gold plating. Frets were badly tarnished but they polished up beautifully.
Rewiring a full hollow body is typically easier because you can usually go thru the pickup cavity which is open to the body, still not easy like a LP that has a rear access panel. But you're right, a semi hollow you have to feed everything thru the F holes and is a bitch, at least from what I've seen. That's the case with most Sheratons too, but seems I got lucky... The MIJ ones (this one, and I'm assuming all MIJ) have a larger opening in the pickup cavity that allows you to feed everything thru it. Still not looking forward to it tho...

Oh, yeh, I've seen demos of people using string/fishing line and also aquarium tubing. Think I'll try the string method, we'll see how it goes....

Here's my strat. 1993 Am Std. Pickups are GFS '64 Stagger Vintage Grey-Bottoms. I replaced all the electronics in 2008, shielded with copper tape, put on a pearloid pickguard, and put on aged white knobs and pickup covers. It's wired for master volume/master tone/bridge blend.

I posted pictures of my new bass here:
Link.
I also have an Ibanez GAX-70, a Fender DG22CE acoustic, a 1980s Yamaha classical, and a Fender mandolin. I ordered an Agile AL-2000 Honey Sunburst Flame that should arrive next week.
