Ep2 definitely picks it up, but the drama is pretty cornified by the end of the season, even for Stephen King standards. There is sufficient horror though. Frances Conroy steals the show, as expected.
Ozark is good, clearly a post-Breaking Bad kind of thing, complete with occasional ridiculous moments. The Ozark-ripping was really noticeable to my wife and I because we had just recently given in to the hype and watched both seasons, about a week before starting the Mist.
The thing about the book and the movie of The Mist is that there's no ending or resolution. It just cuts off, having only hinted at the origin. They actually got close to a possible ending across the span of the TV season, but then just yanked it away in favor of a quick setup for the next season. The involvement of the military is also barely explored at all in the previous versions, but I suppose that's TV cliche-fuel now, enabling similarities to Stranger Things, Walking Dead, X-Files, etc. It really is a perfect vehicle for hauling out truckloads of cliches when you look at it that way, but it works.

Is the Stephen King Universe a thing yet? It could be, easily.

The Stephen King universe is pretty much established in the dark tower book series. It is vast.

Castle Rock is on my list too.

And someone was just telling me about how the Dark Tower series built up the Stephen King universe and connected a bunch of his books. I've wanted to read it for awhile, but I'm a little intimidated to start such a large series.

Downloaded Castle Rock, will watch soon. Still need to see 1922 as well.

There was some labelled North Central Positronics machinery in the Dark Tower movie, and other glimpses of the SKU. Also in the most recent It, there were some more universe teasers. That's what got me wondering if it's being unveiled in TV as well. Now there is SK stuff all over cable and the web services, so much so that the concept of a universe tying it all together is barely even necessary. It seems like it could be more of a hindrance than it's worth to really implement it on a wide scale.

Is this the next Gravity Falls?

I actually just watched 1922 and was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it.

I also think you're right; his work is already out or is coming out all over the place, it wouldn't be worth it to try and tie together a cohesive universe at this point.

It was a fun story. I would say it’s like gravity falls a wee bit, minus the humor. It doesn’t take itself too seriously or anything but it also doesn’t have a fucked up copy realizing it’s better off dead.

Yeah, it's like a graphic novel that's been animated rather than a straight-up animation, too.

The other thing is I'd really like to see more adult-ranged cartoons that aren't bullshit from MacFarlane or the general idiotic Adult Swim shows. The end of Regular Show was a sad day for me.

Stephen King is the best.

Also the dark tower is long but not a particularly difficult read.

I thought I already posted this somewhere, but can't seem to find it, but I finally watched the latest It movie, which was actually really good. It was filmed in the town in which I am currently living. Literally all of the shots of the town are within a 10-20 minute walk from my house (except the creepy old house, that was filmed a few towns over and is probably a 30 minute drive from here). They're currently filming Largo here (the It sequel) and keep converting the downtown into Derry with a bunch of American flags, that giant lumberjack statue, and new shop windows. They had a whole fair setup last weekend for one of the scenes and Stephen King was actually here to do a cameo.

On a possibly related note, my dog frequently stops to sniff sewer grates and sometimes barks into the sewer, so if I ever mysteriously disappear, you guys know why...


Edit: also forgot, but 11/22/63 was partially filmed in the town in which I grew up. I remember driving home from work late one night and was asked to stop and park my car at the top of my street because they were filming up and down my road.

Yeah King is a great dude, in general. Nice guy, doesn't shy away from what he thinks, owns a rock and roll radio station based around Bangor that plays pretty decent tunes.

I watched about half of the new IT. It was great but nothing is going to displace Tim Curry for me (although part II is pretty garbage.)

Now that it's almost the best month of the year I'm getting back on the horror train. Rewatching AHS when not stoned out of my mind has been a bit of a trip .

Hilda is great. My girls really like it and it is very watchable for us as parents.

Yeah, hilda is nice fodder for the kiddies. My son sorta pays attention to it and that’s nice sometimes.
