could you elaborate? I scored a $20 contact mic (expensive as hell imo considering you could put one together for $2D.o.S. wrote:That's exactly what it is.
OTOH a nice piezo setup is going to run you double what they go for (or more).

You could probably be a rad drummer with the Drum Thing, Crash Pad and one of those MASF Spring things.
Something for the Bass drum would be nice but probably one of those Stomp things that are marketed towards solo blues guitarists would do nicely...

Is there a latching sustain pedal similar to the Yamaha EP1? It has an 1/8th jack and it's for the portasound keyboards. also will that actually hold the note infinitely?

I don't know about the offerings of other ones, but you could try an adapter.BoatRich wrote:Is there a latching sustain pedal similar to the Yamaha EP1? It has an 1/8th jack and it's for the portasound keyboards. also will that actually hold the note infinitely?
But I think the sustain thing depends on what it runs into...some might hold it, some might just increase sustain...it just depends...probably easier to just send a sustained midi note message (or CV signal) or clamp a key.

I figured clamping the key would be easiest because it doesn't have CV ins outside of the sustain pedal. I wanted to make sure first though

If the sustain works by momentary switch, you could try a relay/lfo combo like I did with the dd-5 tap tempo. That way a CV source could repeatedly reactivate the control...which could maybe work with things that don't sustain when holding the key [with a clamp]. I doubt it though. Might give you a trem effect though?

The organ setting sustains as long as you hold it but the vibraphone doesn't which sucks, because that sound is really spacey and weird.
This is really just a holdover until I get my microbrute fixed/a mother 32 so it's not a huge deal id just love to have a synth capable of sustained chords.

Haha, yea, it's all about how they set up the patch and stuffBoatRich wrote:The organ setting sustains as long as you hold it but the vibraphone doesn't which sucks, because that sound is really spacey and weird.

Use a looper? Just loop a short sample (or as long as the modulation cycles)...might be fun.

I have this dream of designing pots with expression inputs built in. Like concentric pots, but instead of the middle pot, its just a jack you can plug into. I would replace all my jacks with them and be in expression pedal heaven.

Double post
I was jamming today in my bedroom, and, for the first time, I could honestly say that I am completely content with my tone and options. Like I don't find myself saying, "I would be solid if I only have such and such in my setup."
That definitely won't stop my GAS by any means, but now it feels like everything I get is different flavors or treats.
Instrument wise, I have sufficient flavors of synth in the box and a decent enough controller. Bass, needs some fixings but I can make do. Guitars I have a screaming dirge strat with a EGC humbucker, my go to dirge telemaster with the creamy sonic 60 and warm alumitone, my nice elitist casino with p90's, an epi SG with vibrato for all my warbly needs. and a few other projects in the works just for fun.
And I know all my gear inside and out, and I can just find the tones I want. (excluding the Chase Bliss family, you never stop learning on those.)
Good feeling.
p.s. I still want more chorus' and flange and lots of other things. And I need to refret my bass, because the high strings are so buzzy they are nearly unusable. Who am I kidding, Give me more things

I keep going through phases where I feel like I should sell my Mesa MkV 25w. But it sounds so fucking great, takes pedals really well and doesn't shake the house down when I play. The frustration of selling, finding a replacement and paypal fees is usually more of a hassle than being content with your purchase and feeling guilt for having Progcore/Bluesdad gear.

Just adding that not enough synths support sostenuto and it makes me sad.BoatRich wrote:The organ setting sustains as long as you hold it but the vibraphone doesn't which sucks, because that sound is really spacey and weird.

It's really a huge bummer, droning notes are used in enough types of music that you'd think it would be common sense.spacelordmother wrote:Just adding that not enough synths support sostenuto and it makes me sad.BoatRich wrote:The organ setting sustains as long as you hold it but the vibraphone doesn't which sucks, because that sound is really spacey and weird.

Re: The Whatever Thread .. For Gear!!
I'm super tempted by the new Yamaha Reface YC (went to a couple of shops to try it again yesterday) for this kind of stuff too... It should be drone heaven with some additional effects I think. The 5 organ models really have differents sounds (from the Hammond type with less harmonics to the Acetone that can sound noisy in a very good way) and the control of harmonics with drawbars is really useful, probably even more with a nice overdrive or fuzz after the YC. The included distortion/reverb are useful too... A bit expensive and some things are not perfect (continuous sliders for the drawbars would have been great but that's not what people who are actually into organs expect) but really tempting...
