I do a Dynacomp with a parallel mosfet boost, it's quieter than the original too. Could be just the ticket.AngryGoldfish wrote: The Dyna Comp is ideal for that. Optical compressors, like The Warden, are quieter and can handle hotter signals. Some say they're not as interesting though.

How hard was it to build? I've heard compressors are a bit fiddly. Is that right, do you think?

They can be temperamental and there's a solid parts count but I had more trouble with the functionality than the compressor itself. Built a couple of optical Compulator clones that were no hassle. And that we did.
