The big metal is set up so it is easier to use while playing guitar, the dial is hooked up to an expression jack so you can control with a pedal while playing. That's the main difference between the old and new, the old benefits more from constant tweaking of the knobs and sliders. I think it's easier to get crazier sounds with the older version too. I kinda prefer the wooden enclosure too cause its angled stomp plate is nicer I think.

One small issue with the metal judder is that the stompswitches are pretty close to the time knob, and the judder is something you step on a lot, so I would accidentally bump the knob with my foot. The wood version's angled stomps would prevent this.

Good point and one thing I've thought about, although when using an expression pedal it's a moot point.
