how can that even work with no springs and no proper pivot points? Guyatone and Kay made better tremolos than that. you might as well use a Gretsch Tone Twister, aka String Snapper.

i swear they could do a better job than they do with the fake Gibsons. the finishes are usually a dead giveaway because the guitar looks like it’s been poly-dipped, the inlays aren’t very well-done, and the whole thing just reeks of cheese. i see people on Facebook crowing over their “Chibsons” that look like someone let the people from the short bus work that day. what’s particularly absurd are the fake Martins and SJ-200s absolutely encrusted in inlay that in some cases covers the entire back of the guitar. Antonio Tsai in excelsis deo. of course they have tree-of-life fingerboard inlays so busy you can’t see the frets. and if you look at half a dozen SJ-200s they don’t even have the same body shape from one to another.
i have to confess, though, that i’m tempted by the black faux Byrdland guitars i see on eBay. i normally wouldn’t consider counterfeit crap or celebrity copies, but that’s the only way i’ll ever get to play one because the originals are now into five figures. as a lover of short scales a 23.5” jazz guitar intrigues me.
but if you want real badness look at the fake Gretsches. absolutely none of the hardware is within ICBM range of correct.

and it’s not as if it would be cost-prohibitive to run up batches of fake Gretsch knobs.

i sincerely don’t even know what to say about that thing. it looks like something from the USSR, only worse. actually it looks like someone chopped up a Japanese guitar from the 60s and put it together with that body that looks like a hacked-up version of The Process cult logo. looks too old to have been inspired by B.C. Rich. i’ll bet the perpetrator reshaped the headstock to “match” the body contours. it’s particularly funny that the grain in the body runs crossways rather than in line with the neck.
on further examination that body must have two layers or be a particularly odd piece of plywood because the top grain is parallel to the neck while the back is rotated 90 degrees.

i made the mistake of clicking on a fake White Falcon out of morbid curiosity and now my eBay feed is full of horrible fake Falcons, Country Gentlemen, and even a Super Chet. the fake Falcons really offend me because i love my real WF so much. it’s like someone trying to look like your girlfriend. but what’s really mind-boggling is the relic fake Strats and Teles…why even bother? it’s not as if you couldn’t get a Squier for $200 used.
