so, in addition to stopping in @ GC in whitehall on friday, i also stopped in @ the quakertown farmer's market. i had been happily streaming marion brown the whole way down, but my car's cd slot was staring back @ me reproachfully, so i though mebbe it was time to chack the cd stock @ Record Revival in Qmart. now, in edition to most ev'ry prg reissue and KC tour edition that comes out, this place usually has a nice stock of Sun Ra reissues - and fiday was no exception. and it just so happens that one of the cds i snagged was the Lanquidity era "Sleeping Beauty" featuring opening track..."Springtime Again" psychic
this is a really interesting era for Sun Ra to me b/c funky, but also the relative rarity of having guitars in the mix - and speaking of the mix, the production and mastering on this one are great with tonnes of little sonic nuggets and def something for the rocksichord lovers out there i know who you are
every time i hear something else from Herman my estimation of him gets higher - i've said it before, but there may not be another musician in jazz or anywhere who manages to be so identifiably unique and yet also traverse so broad a swath of American musical history as SR
and here's another weird bit of psychicicity, chank - i have had the image file that is used for the vid you posted open in a tab since friday b/c i planned to make it the next one i post in the pictures you love of musicians you love thread

yeah, I'm a fan of numerous phases in the Arkestra discography… and there're lots of great ones. So much to listen to.

it's not like i was ever not into them from the first time i heard 'em, but more and more lately they are exactly what my ear wants to hear
but in a strange way, my appreciation really kicked into high gear after i went on a mega Ellington binge eight or nine years ago

All periods of Ellington are worth bingin' on. Even the beginnin' copycat stuff.
… and here's somethin' else, Swedish funky fusion:
