I actually mostly like Rick and Morty the show (not all of it, sometimes it gets a bit too violent and unsavoury and falls into its own hype). But the fans would entirely put me off if I hadn't watched it before I saw any internet hype.

Same. I laugh at it sometimes. The people wearing the shirts featuring Ricks lines remind me of people from the early 2000's wearing Stone Cold Steve Austin shirts at Wal-Mart

When you say "fandom," are you talking about that Sechzuan Sauce bullshit where a whole bunch of McDonalds joints got over-run?
Because if so, I'll say I disagree because that shit was amazing and essentially turned McD's into the flaming pile that it really is, while showing everyone else how rabid fanbois really are, no matter what the show/genre/interest is. McD's wanted to make a fast buck off of some niche trendy shithead community and got exactly what they deserved for their trouble.
And the fact that Dan Harmon popped up and said, "Too bad wubba lubba dub dub that's the waaaaaaay the news goes" in response made me instantly love him.

To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.
And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

My older sister wrote on season 3 for Rick and Morty. The fandom, especially on reddit, made me feel a little queezy half the time. If the incels deemed the episode good: they'd all start circle jerking praise for Dan Harmon, if they didn't like it of course blame the women writers. The women in that writer's room were hounded on twitter all the time for ruining the show.
I do think it's a good show, but I'm honestly hoping my sister doesn't go back.

which episodes did she write?
I know "Pickle Rick" was written by a woman, and that ep cut right to the bone.

She did the Vindicators episode. Everyone does work a lot of every episode, but that was their main one.

If they cut out the adventures of pickle Rick it would have been a great episode, but that bit was terrible. That bit meaning 75% or so of the episode by time

Hmmm..disagree. It did take a while to show why it was being done, but two things occurred that created new reasons for why Rick acts like he does; one is - up to that point, Rick had essentially told the truth to most everyone, whether explaining what was occurring or explaining why he did whatever he did. He was honest to the point he was hurtful most of the time.
But him straight up lying to Jaguar about his daughter being alive in other dimensions (even after Jaguar essentially saved his life, and will again) shows how terrible he is. I mean, why would he NOT tell Jaguar the truth and put his soul at ease?
And it also touches on the fact that allllll of this stuff he does isn't even really to protect his family, because he doesn't particularly care about them. He said it out loud to Jaguar, but the car sequence where he brushes off all their problems and tempts Beth with a drinking binge shows he really doesn't care about them and the damage he's done to them.
And the quick exchange in the helicopter also opens up the possibility that Rick had previously died on his original timeline.

so.... Disenchanted. super boring the first half, but i was actually really into the last 3 or 4 episodes and curious where it will go.
spoilers?
as a straight up comedic thing like Futurama or when Simpsons was good, it sucks ball butts. but as an interesting fantasy world populated with some characters i've started to care about and a more dramatic adventure story with some comedic elements? digging it.

I should have been clearer. I found all of the violence scenes with pickle Rick (which seemed to take up a huge portion of the episode) incredibly dull. Everything else about it was good, I agree with you.
