With my (actual) metal band I write that way - a riff that is "actually" two bars of 6/4 I'll write out as a cycle of three bars in 4/4, which works out well cos we tend to play odd time stuff like Meshuggah (where shit just rolls under the hats/crash going in 4) rather than the patented mike portnoy school of Make-everyone-aware-of-every-fucking-time-signature-always.
But I just wanna go nuts in this project.
Fuck dude, if you ever want to collaborate...

Man, I wanna do something so bad but my brain just keeps replaying Wayne and Garth saying "We're not worthy"...haha. You are too awesome, man. I gotta get some skills and practice in before I could even think about it...but yea, down the road that would be awesome!
Center of Gravity is pretty rad man.
Screw Google for breaking youtube embedding on moble...arggg..

I think this video has shown me a lot of the potential. Esp. with resampling of loops, you could get some weird times and some fast parts going. The Zulumonk guy is pretty good at explaining and doing...so finally found something. OP-1 it is for me

Damn, why does the used market for the OP-1 gotta suck? One with a broken mic is goin for near 700...

Because OP-2 never.
It's not like they aren't readily available either. I think it's because it's just such a damn cool item.

I know...just kind of funny watching this. Like just save up 100 more and get a new one instead of a really used on that is showing signs of breaking. Some people man haha.
But yea, I'm going down the OP-1 route...wait for a deal or save up for new? haha. Some day...when everything sells. Gotta stay even.
You ever used one ST? If you have, got any impressions for me?

Every once in a while, someone brings one in for a session. There are 2 trains of thought I see. 1, it's the best thing ever. 2, It sounds neat, but it is god awful to work and all the menu maneuvering stunts the creative process. Never played with one in depth, but it seems like one of those things that really depends on your workflow. If you dig menus, go for it.

Hmmm...yea, that is kind of why I was asking about it versus something like the machine drum. I kind of got that impression too from jsut reading about it...but the more I have researched today, I think it might be worth trying. I may just have to build things on that and just bounce to something else, but it is still simpler than what I am doing.
The MPC was menu hell though and in the worst way (I thought). I think I am just going to see if I can focus on it and just go for it...I can always flip it I guess. I just think it will fit in with the more random spastic ideas I have than something like the Akai RW or the TR-8.
I don't want go back to the old way...which was a pain (triggers and multiple machines or just boucing down randomness on a tape machine for a backing tape). It was frustrating enough that I never finished anything that way except one half assed track that I hate to this day haha.

Can't wait to watch those demos you dug up Lord G. Probably won't have time until this evening.

Yeah, the OP-1 has some menus. But, as someone who hates menu diving, I can tell you it is no big deal. Most everything you need is on a dedicated button or a shift key away. This is not your father's synthesis. Things have strange names and peculiar functions. However, the color coding makes it intuitive and engaging. For me, the OP-1 is fun and inspiring. That's something I find is lost with a lot of gear, especially computer-based.
lg, look at the OP-1's DBox if you wanna program your own drums. But, honestly, I find, for beats outside of Electronic music, I almost always prefer samples. There are some right decent kits on the OP-1, already. And, I have a few packs from some of the classic samplers that are great. Also, study up on the sequencers. There are many, and some of them do rather unusual things.

Yea, it didn't seem that bad to me after I found some good demos/ watching people create on them instead of talking. The market is pretty weird for them. I will probably just guy new (seems like the mic and input jack breaking is fairly common on these guys..three or four auctions have mentioned them breaking...unless people are just universally hard on their gear in the same way). the broken ones are going for like 150 under new price which is crazy.
The name and stuff I get...it makes for a more blind experience and to take everything as an equal (instead of saying phaser, I hate phaser...but ohhhh, space laser...what's that?). I think it might be a really good thing for me. The sampling seems more up my alley than crazy huge premade wave files (and I know I can still do that on this) and I think I will get along just fine.
Just after the MPC and S330, I didn't want to get caught up in OS loading and menus just to make one sound...the OP-1 seems more ready to go, if you know what I mean.
Computers do loose a lot of their quirks and loose some functionality by destroying limitations.
Thanks for the help and the perspective man. Really awesome and helps me get going in a direction...thanks again.
