first jazz band that comes to mind here that is active is Scoutland. I played a show with them last year in BKK for a tiny event. They were nice guys, the saxophone player is pretty prolific here. Honestly aren't many people that are actually doing anything pushing the boundaries in jazz here, most play covers or in the style of respected artists from the USA or Europe. A lot of Thai music is grounded on the principle that it is not be changed or altered, and that to do so makes it no longer 'Thai', which is very clear when you look across the music scenes here with how little ther is in the way of honest attempts at genuine innovation sonically. Also certain music is for certain classes, or is rooted in that history or tradition even if people don't want to admit it openly. Its also reflected in the social and political problems plaguing our country for years now... :
