:p

yep, the downside of all inspired/musical demos - you don't know whether you're buying the demo'd or the demoer

(also can we get a secret menu w/ Botch chunes?)

Digging the sloped enclosure, with a bit of a nod to the CE-1. $400 street (RE-2 is confirmed at $250)

They've added a 4th head with 4 onboard presets (expandable to 127). It looks like pre-orders are open immediately.

The enclosure looks great! Does BOSS plan a rebirth of the Roland Phase Five maybe?

This. ^^^ I understand the costs of modern constructions, but lots of people think even their crappy vintage shits' worth way more than it actually is.

Phase Mutant looks incredibly useful. Have messed around with their Motion Fx some and it's quite nice to do what it says: Add a little bit of movement/motion into static/stationary sounds. Been a nice addition.

4) Micah Frank's Lore project got an update. (free to Century Pass supporters or $9 a month for updates) It now accepts live input, so you don't have to load pre-recorded samples into it.

Now that it has live input, it just became more relevant to me and I put it on a couple things and the spectral side smears sounds in a really nice way. Can see taking a guitar part and completely smearing it into something pretty. Not sold on the granular bit but then again, every granular effect I've tried doesn't seem to do much else for me other than snatching entropy from order. Which can be fun, fer sure

DL4/RE-202 - Haven't had a chance to look at the videos but hard for me to imagine they would be worth the amount of pedalboard real estate they would consume, for my purposes anyway. One thing about Boss though, I like that they continue to push themselves out of their confines and try out new interfaces. Me in 2012 would have probably had tried a RE-202.

Man, this has got to stop. Really want to try the new DL4 and RE20. They’ve both been pedals I’ve wanted to try in the past, but never grabbed for some reason. These updated versions make it very tempting. Definitely don’t need both and I’ve got a few things I could sell that the DL4 would definitely replace, so I might try to make that happen

wow, pretty amazing month for delay!! though i have to agree, the prices are getting higher and higher

i'm curious if the legacy looper on the DL4 replicates the lofi sound the the overdub loss/compression? i'm worried they've improved the quality haha. maybe it changes based on the alt switch, but i can't find anything in the manual.

The RE-2 will end up on my board. The question is if it knocks off the Canyons, Lucky Cat, or El Capistan?

We're caught in this squeeze between inflation, global instability, and greed, so we tend to forget that building costs were actually on the decline for a long time (pre-Covid, Reverb price gouging, saturated markets).

A BOSS BF-1 in 1980 ($155 CAD) would be $507 CAD ($404 USD) today.

A Prophet~5 in 1978 ($3,9550 USD) would be $17,384 currently.

Adjusting for scarcity and inflation, vintage gear could actually be much further into the realm of unobtanium.

well, in that case...nah,rents are rising in 25-40% increments to account for inflation; car insurance premium up 25%: "inflation" - prices @ the pump, grocery, local takeout, all up big.

Welp, meanwhile i got a 2% salary increase to cover inflation - and i consider myself lucky in that regard.

no whining, just reality: if pedals are gonna cost 1979 dollars, i'm out

Might be worth noting that the RE-20 debuted in 2007 at an MSRP of $339 USD*, which adjusted for inflation to 2022 would be $464. The RE-202's MSRP is $519, which is about an 11% price increase from the RE-20. But also, the RE-202 expands on the RE-20's features by giving you control over repeat saturation & wow/flutter, tape age, presets, defeat of the preamp, an extra footswitch, an extra playhead, and a few extra reverb algos. The only thing missing is continuous control over the input preamp.

I was pumped to get one at the time, and I remember reading mostly complaints about the RE-20--why so much money for just one sound, it doesn't even have presets, huhhhh? Go read some TGP pages from back then, it's hilarious watching them try to figure out what the appeal of an accurate, solid simulation of an iconic tape echo was.

I was planning on getting the RE-2 as a backup to my RE-20, but the RE-202 is tempting. A lot of the common user complaints addressed by the RE-202 were never a problem for me, personally--I like the preamp, I think the reverb is dope as fuck, and I don't need presets. But the extra playhead and control over age and saturation is compelling!

*couldn't find MSRP in HockeyBux, sorry echorec :(
