It looks like they aren’t sure what’s happening yet. But people who have been infected and recovered are testing positive again. It sounds like they aren’t 100% sure why yet.

I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out that the issue is either a problem with how people are tested or that the virus, like, "hides" for a while despite still being in a person's body. :idk:
Because, logically, it should be impossible to get sick again unless the virus mutates (significantly, since every virus mutates based on genome, iirc), which there hasn't been any claims that it has done so yet.

The most absolutely bizarre thing is no country has bothered to do a serological survey to actually get fatality rate. The US is just wrapping one up, close to 5 months after this began, and the sample size is only 10,000. Pharmas probably test more people in rolling out an acne medication.

I think the most bizarre thing is people claiming it's not real. People I know who are related to me with the same uncle who died recently. I just can't anymore.

I read those news of the virus deniers and it's totally insane. Are those the same guys who think that brown cows give chocolate milk?

I haven't seen anyone saying the virus doesn't exist, I've seen a lot of people and info that suggests no one knows how lethal it is because no one has bothered to get a sound estimation of total infected, and an awful lot of information that points to this being completely overblown for the vast majority of people, where people with significant risk of death being above 65 with pre-existing health conditions, and people below 65 with no health conditions having very, very low chance of death (lower than risk than being killed in a car crash).

What would be cool is get everyone who didn't believe in the virus or vaccines together in a live streamed demolition derby to the death, for all our amusement.

What could be fueling part of the hoax theories is there are some reports of empty/not busy hospitals/medical centers. While there are a combination of reasons why this is happening, some see it as "proof" that "the media" is... I don't even know. Everywhere is seeing less people. The only hospitals/medical centers that are being filled are in areas of high infection rates. Not really sure what people expect in places with low infection rates.

And the next Jazz giant has passed away thanks to the crappy virus.

RIP Lee Konitz. :(

As I see it Trump won't have a reason to rely on the votes of Jazz music fans in November.

Did y'all see the gridlock protest that happened in Lansing, Michigan? They had their cars blocking up the street to the hospital.

The hospitals here locally are underwhelmed and not busy at all from what I've seen on my drives (my sanity driving). Which is good actually IMO. However, other people are using that as an excuse to try and reopen. Since I'm a "landlord", I'm privy to the way some of them think because they talk about it. I think a lot people are scared to death and reacting poorly because of it, but I also think some people just don't give a fuck about others. Here in the metro, Mayor Lucas extended the order until May 15th. I say, good fucking job dude. Everyone else I've spoke to, fuck him. He can't tell us what to do. Blah, blah, blah. Taking away our freedoms.

Ok. First and foremost, the order is NOT being enforced by police, so you still do have freedoms. Second, this shit isn't about 1 person or business. Fuck you and your goddamn business. Fuck my business. This is about life. LIFE damn it. If we cannot preserve it, what the hell is the point in existing?

I for one am not comfortable with the thought of any herd immunity that does not include a vaccine, so I'm not sure where to go.

If someone under 65 with no health conditions catches a car accident, it is very unlikely that they can infect 10s to 1 with it.

This underscores one of the fundamental blind spots in claims that people under 65 who have no health conditions are at very low risk of death: Those who do not die can and will pass on the virus to those who will.

Other blind spots:

Americans under 65 with health conditions that put them at severe risk of death if infected with Covid 19: There are a lot of them.

Death rate in a contextual vacuum means very little. During a typical flu season, refrigerator trucks and mass graves are not required to handle the overflow of dead bodies. If the death rate is anything less than highly unusual, then why have so many people been dying? If virus A and virus B each kill one out of every 1,000 people, and virus B infects 10,000 more people in a given timeframe, then how much more deadly has virus B been during that timeframe?

We are now looking at numbers and rates that reflect weeks of extreme measures to mitigate infections and deaths. What would those numbers look like if we carried on as usual? If we implemented less extreme measures?

X number of people have died from Covid 19; that is an important part of the picture. Another important part: how many people have been bedridden or hospitalized for days or weeks before recovering? How many more will be or would have been so in the absence of the measures that have been taken?
