Insanely good year of music imo. So good I haven't even had time to listen to everything I wanted. However, here's my list:

1. Now, Now - Saved
2. Vennart - To Cure A Blizzard Upon A Plastic Sea
3. Rolo Tomassi - Time Will Die And Love Will Bury It
4. Säkert! - Arktiska Oceanen (EP)
5. Respire - Dénouement
6. Jens Lekman & Annika Norlin - Correspondence
7. Slow Crush - Aurora
8. Emma Ruth Rundle - On Dark Horses
9. Wake - Misery Rites
10. The Ocean - Phanerozoic I: Paleozoic

This whole record was super fun. Best all covers album of 2018? Are there other contenders I'm forgetting?

I hosted a house show for Kuzu this year! Great dudes, MIND-BLOWING show. Super inspirational.

Also it's been super cool seeing all the Bailey reissues, and yes, Orcutt and Corsano killed it.
Brace Up! rules, and I'm loving Neu Bros/OK Phone/Rural Beatles and the Gucci Tops & Bottoms cassette, too.

Other records that blew a dude's mind that were released this year-
Tashi Dorji & Tyler Damon - Soft Berm cassette on Magnetic South - ok, and the Leave No Trace LP on Family Vineyard, too
Wendy Eisenberg - Its Shape Is Your Touch on VDSQ
Wound comp on Carbon Records
Low- Double Negative
Senyawa - Sujud on Sublime Freqs
the Ustad Zia Dagar joints on Ideologic Organ
Gwenifer Raymond - You Were Never Much Of a Dancer on Tompkins Square
Drinks - Hippo Lite on Drag City
the High Rise reissue from Black Editions
Dylan Carlson - Conquistador
Abu Obadia Hassan on Ostinato
Tim Hecker - Konoyo on Kranky

plenty more, too

That was a trainwreck but I'll be damned if the ascending riff doesn't save it anyway (that's my favourite dead song).

03 Isolation (John Lennon)
04 Hit It and Quit it (Funkadelic)
05 Class War (The Dils)
06 The Loner (Neil Young)
07 Pretty Miss Titty (Gong)
08 Archangel Thunderbird (Amon Düül II)
09 Rotten to the Core (Rudimentary Peni)
10 St. Stephen (Grateful Dead)
11 Slowboat (Sparks)

i have not heard it, but was mightily amused to see that this was the second cover of "Archangels Thunderbird" released this year (the Breeders also cut a version). of all the Krautrock songs i can think of, i'd never have suspected that one would be covered more than, say, "Bel Air" by Can (which tbf was xeroxed by The Fall in "I Am Damo Suzuki") or one of the grooves from the first 2 Neu! albums. i'd have covered "You Can't Kill Me" as my Gong selection, though. or maybe "Oily Way."

my favorite Dead riff by far, along with the interlocking guitar figures and the solo on "China Cat Sunflower."

those Kuzu guys are the best. i've been lucky enough to play with Tyler Damon before & it was a blast.

That Ty Segall track is mostly bad (the bit with THAT RIFF is ok) but it does make me want to do a "good" fuzzy version of that song...

all super cool dudes. I wasn't trying to get a jam in with all those dudes there, but would have to be super fun.
Was definitely cool talking guitar with Tashi and records in general with all those dudes.
I didn't really know Dave's work before the gig, but was blown away with what he was doing.
I'd never seen a horn player doing circular breathing stuff so up close before -
was crazy seeing a horn player push out lines that were almost like a synth in how long the phrases were.
SO. DAMN. RAD.
