Very very very lovely rainy Friday morning music. Thanks!!Ev_O))) wrote:Great thread. Here to spam relevant material:

Granular synthesis and fuckity samples mostly, all smashed together in Ableton. I even made use of the Max for Live instrument made by our very own Dr. Sherman Sticks MD and linked a few pages back (which is a hell of a lot of fun).
Anyone else getting down with Computer based drone/granular stuff at the moment?

Yeah definitely a hurdle, especially since the source material (or anything easily created live) is typically processed out of it's mind before it shows up on anything anyone hears.Ev_O))) wrote:oscillateur wrote:That's quite nice...Ev_O))) wrote:Great thread. Here to spam relevant material:

Is it something you could play live somehow (I mean, really interacting with the music) ?
Thanks guys.
I have been working on finding a way to do it effectively and in a truly live manner and so far I have taken the route of breaking it down into a million clips in ableton and fucking around with crossfades and things like that to try and keep it somewhat improvisatory in nature. But yeah. It's something that feel weird coming form an instrumental performace background and I'm looking at working some live loops into it.
Gonna have to figure it out.
Like your record, dude!

I really dug that, Evan. On par with/more so than that Mammifer record you posted in the music section. Good shit, keep it up.

Does anyone use a controller with their iPad? If so, what do you use and would you recommend it?
I've got a Novation Launckey Mini but I find the keys to be a bit unresponsive but I don't know how it compares to the other options.

Re: Computer based ambient drone: Tim Hecker, Ben Frost etc.
ran thru it quick this morning cuz i did the edits a bunch of months ago.
for JUMANJI, i think i changed some of the beat slicing to latch to beat divisions of live's tempo (you can still just turn the knobs and get in-between)
i also got pitch down and reverse grains going on the greenwood. (reverse is negative value, pitch down is between 0 and 1.)
and added a step size knob, which was my attempt at getting in-between the octaves at different musical intervals. step size 1 is normal operation.
it works but i think my math is off on some of the settings sooooo yea gotta tweak this part.
the delay should be hooked up properly now too.
NOISE. i think i just added some longer sweep ranges. on my list is maybe adding a few different waveforms to select from instead of just sweep + and sweep -
go awn git it.

Really good stuff, Ev_O)))!!!! The sounds you're making are vary inline with what I like. Reminds me of Tim Hecker, Jeffrey Cantu Ledesma and also the New Zealand band Jakob, for some reason. Not to say the music doesn't have a sound/feel of its own - it does, which I really appreciate and respect.
I've also found it really tricky to find a way to pull this kind of stuff off live.
Also, for you guys that like a lot of the stuff like Ev_O))) did, check out the label 'Root Strata' if you haven't heard it before:

Root Strata has some really great releases. I've been digging the hell out of "Perhaps" by Harold Budd. Not processed, but really beautiful nonetheless.
Other labels with typically great releases are: 12k, Denovali, Erased Tapes, Hibernate, Slaapwel, dauw, and Komu.

It took time to grow on me too, considering that my introduction to him was Aurora.

I think i just got caught up in how much I was enjoying the new sound, but I listened to BY THE THROAT again today and it really got me. I'l that was my introduction to him and it hit home like it did in those early days... like a virgin... touched for the very first tiiiime.
