Is The Ocean cool around these parts? Or are you guys still calling them B-rated Isis? Their latest album Pelagial is a masterpiece.

They're just the worse band with the name.

They definitely showed up late with a lot of the same clothes as the kids that were at the party earlier, though. Haven't listened to them properly in ages.

I feel the same way about Australasia.

I stopped listening to the Ocean at about Aeolian.
Only out of dropping out of life.
I thought it was a great album, so I dunno if they got worse or what.

is that the band with everything synched up to their light show via midi and the guy who complains that no one comes to their tours? Or different Ocean?

I dislocated my jaw during their set and had my glasses knocked off my face and across the stage only to be passed around the crowd back to me. Definitely one of the more memorable live experiences I've had in recent years. I was so pumped up that I just put my jaw back in place and continued partying. That and the tiny asian girl that took the singer's mic and started belting out some mean screams, dude was so surprised he just let her finish the section.

yeah that's them.

I love mogwai, esp. the recordings. I saw them last year live and they sucked hard. I was sad.

Russian circles is pretty great. Saw them twice live, they always delivered.

Maserati is on recordings a bit boring. Live they ruled hard (in 2008).

Red sparrows is awesome and touching for me. They are live great, saw them twice, but i don't get the video stuff in the backgound: wrong pictures that i didn't associate with their music.

I ran across the post rock wording in ca. 2005/6 and reslized, that i'm doing postrock stuff. And i still do it. Analog pattern robots is to me basicly Elektro Post Rock.

I think post-metal picked up where post-rock left off.

Of course that's way too simplistic, because a lot of post-rock bands (MONO, Explosions) started with a more post-metal sound before levelling out.

But the heavy hitter post-metal bands are all so fucking good. ISIS, Pelican, Russian Circles, Red Sparrowes, and Boris (when Boris do that sort of thing) are all my shit.

D.o.S., I'm really pleasantly surprised that you like Pelican. I think that's twelve.

P.S. I like The Ocean, Pelagial is good, but the vocals aren't very good.
