So you guys like the idea of global modulation on a reverb pedal, hey? I was quite tickled when I made it on the bread board but I've pondered it and chatted about it with a few savvy folks and I'm just not positive about it. I guess it depends on how the other things I'm pondering pan out. I can't help but like it though, it just sounds neat. And on slow extreme settings it just sounds creepy and I love that, like how the movie studio music goes all sour and creepy at the beginning of Aliens.

Seriously though, if you want to outsource, I do it for fun...

Or you could make it as a module for the miniberator. I think a reverse gate and a 1/4 male on the right side instead of the input jack would do it, and when their powers combine... :omg:

But Aliens has a great score, so that's a sound that should be pursued.

What else are you pondering?

Well, FS, I'm actually pretty conflicted lately about what the upgrades to the RRR are going to be but I do have some good options I'm pondering...

The biggest thing is adding a new sound or two and I just don't know if that's going to be doable without switching to a different chip for the reverb processor and I'm pretty leery of doing that as I don't want to change how the pedal sounds in general.

So if I just keep with the same 9 sounds it has now then these are some possibilities for the upgrades: stereo in and out, expression pedal control for mix or decay, decay control on a knob, global modulation with rate and depth controls, bass and treble controls.

Personally, I'd like to see stereo ins/out, modulation, and decay controls, and those would probably get the most use by the general populous. Some new sounds would be neat, but I think the people purchasing the RRR are doing it for how it sounds as it is. Adding features to the current model would keep your current client base happy because the sound they love is still there, as well as pull in some new folks (how many reverbs out there have controllable modulation?).

Unless the new sound is infinity dwell or something. That's just crazy.

Sorry for commandeering your update thread.

Modulation would be very cool. 100% wet plate reverb with modulation would be totally dream pop tastic. :thumb:

I agree, FS, and all of those things are totally doable. The decay control is actually nearly done, just one kink to work out still but it sounds and functions really well.

I think you've made the most important point yet and that's keeping the pedal sounding the way it does now. At one point recently I had even been pondering switching to a different processor that could have different reverb patches but the change in general sound of the pedal would be a risk I don't think is worth taking. So I'm going to focus on things I can change about the circuit already without impacting the general sound of the pedal in any way. You've had some real wise in put on this, FS, and I thank you for it!

but isn't that what the miniRRR is for? it is exactly the same as the RRR, just in a smaller box?

then again, i'd love a stereo version.

edit:
i think i'm gonna pick up this Airberator later today

Hang on a sec, OB, if you want you can get a mini in the Off the Air finish in a week... more to come on that very soon! (we're going to do a limited edition run of 25 to kick off the minis in style, starting this week)

Ok, so yes, the minis are supposed to be the regular version or old version of the pedal, version 1. The full size version of the pedal is definitely going to have some upgrades or changes about it.. I'm just not sure what yet! There's several options and I just want to make the best choices for the pedal.

The more I look into changing the sounds of the pedal though the more I realize that won't be an option. The reverb engine isn't designed to use the existing sounds plus custom sounds. To use custom sounds requires a full set of custom code, plus you basically have to set up a computer inside the pedal.. you need external memory and a microcontroller. This really isn't the direction I want to take the pedal.

So the upgraded full size version will have the same 9 reverb patches as the minis but it'll have different features like: *these are all possible but not worked out so they may or may not make it* stereo in and out, expression control for mix and/or decay, decay control on a knob, bass and treble controls, double headroom for the audio path, global modulation with depth and rate controls.

Even just the decay on a knob is a big addition to the circuit requiring a high speed variable oscillator and vactrol plus trimpot to tune it in to the right range, so I'll be choosing from the above list 2 or 3 things that I think are really awesome additions.

How does the SDD compare tonally to a Boss DM-2 or an Analogman ARDX20? I love the look of Dr. Scientist pedals (not to mention the tones out of the ones I've tried), and if it beats out either of those, I could fit it onto one of my gigging boards.
