I'm a solid state guy ... Carvin SX300 head, Orange Crush 120 head, Carvin DCM200L, EHX 44mag ... place a tech21 psa or tech21 character series pedal or good digital multifx (zoom g3x) in front of a solid state and you're good to go ... the Crush is awesome by itself ...

I love the crush, got two of them. I had been wondering overall about those Carvin SS's if they were any good.

I'd stick with the crush vs the sx300 but the dcm200l is a great rack mounted power amp - very light and loud

I saw superjoint ritual last week and not Jimmy Bower but the other guy was using a CR120. Sounded great. I'm thinking about going back to solid state. I've been dicking around with different tube amps but my drummer's randall still sounds better to me. :idk:

I've been thinking about picking up another solid state head for a while. I've had Ampegs, Sunns and Crates in the past and made good use of all of them. The Orange CR120H does look temping, especially since they're not hard to find used either. Although I am a little tempted to get an Ampeg SS series amp again. I kind of regret selling my SS-150, but they all go for triple or more what I paid for that originally.

yea and to boot it's always the SS140's I have been seeing for sale. I rarely ever see the SS150H's come up nowadays. Like in the last 2 years I think I've seen 2 for sale.

I dig the cr alot.

If I can get some tools and music gear sold I have listed right now, I'm going to pick up one of those CR120H heads.

gentlemen, ive come to my wits end with tube amps. theyre just not reliable enough for me. cant tell you how many tube amps ive smoked while dr poops sunn coliseum bass has been 100%, 300% of the time.

fucking had it. 90+ pounds and in the shop 25%of the time @ 200$a pop. nope. no more. might be undoom as fuck but im really really excited to get back into a carvin b1500 and spend the rest of my cash on custom cabs.

I honestly see nothing wrong with that aside from the breakup of an awesome collection you had going. I still prefer SS overall. so far out of the last 5 amps I've gotten in 3 of them need work. Either immediately pop fuses or no sound coming out. Fucking tubes.

Yeah whiskey, as long as you keep your essentials for recording/museum purposes, you should command as many watts as necessary.
I gotta PM you about that Concert Bass, too.
If that's still a thing.
It's cool, I know you're busy.

Seeing Jimmy play an SS150 with EHG made me GAS my arse off for one. Pretty much the best sound ever.
I love valve heads, but one day I think I'm gonna have to get one of these because they are the most ridiculously amazing live distortion I've ever heard.
All this CR120 talk makes me wanna jump in on that as well.

I think solid state got a bad rap early on because Fender created a budget line of amps that featured solid state technology in the 60s, which, again, were budget. Apparently, they sucked. But today there are so many great solid state options I don't feel tempted by tubes. And there have been quite a few names who used solid state amps, Cobain and Dimebag come to mind. Again, a lot of good options.

Have you looked at Quilter? They are a bit pricey but apparently put out some great sounds. They have a new 50 watt mini head (about 2 lbs) that has various style modes on it ... tweed, jazz, surf, etc. I'm seriously thinking about adding to my solid state collection with Quilters. And you can't go wrong with the Crush but know that it doesn't really have any crystal clean channels. The clean channel has some breakup earlier than you might expect ...

Yeah, the Crush is no joke. And there is black toltex covered and orange one. I have the orange.

don't like the quilter due to how it looks. it looks like a metal cigar box. I got a black and orange CR.
