That whole "family tree" is equal in my eyes.

And fuck you guys, the first two Mastodon records are beyond fantastic.

Mastodon in recordings> Mastodon live.... anyone else notice how bad the vocals sometimes are live?

Also, I've heard that somewhere out there is a version of Crack the Sky without vocals....I bet that makes for a neato prog record.... just sayin'

i thoroughly enjoyed mastodon before the hunter. that album is terrible. in fact my wallpaper on my laptop has been the full artwork for leviathan since, well forever!

yep, if you downloaded crack the skye from itunes you got the entire album without vocals and its awesome! i would love to hear leviathan without vocals!

i would still take High on Fire any day as Matt Pike is the shit!

I kinda have a guilty enjoyment with Creature Lives. It's catchy and great for singing to whilst drinking.

:( You guys are just rough on it...

eh, just preferences, breh. I like Sleep better than all the other bands said to be > Sleep.
Here's one that could spark some controversy, Neil Young >Dylan.

Dude, no controversy there.

I love 'em both, but if you're talkin' songwriting, Dylan > Young. If you're talkin' playin' the guitar, it's the other way around.

Idk, Neil Young in his prime is what I prefer, as I just relate to it more. Granted, Neil's stuff (talkin' lyrics here)is more simplistic. But to some, therein lies the appeal. It correlates with his/Crazy Horse's music splendidly. Dylan was more beats-inspired, and thus, more complex lyrically, perhaps even more eloquent. I just have a soft spot for Neil. Phantasmagorovich knows why :)*
