Yup, with the gain on the KKF all the way down the volume barely hit unity when I had it.
Yeah, I noticed this, too. But I also seemed to notice that the fuzz from the filter doesn't kick in until the gain is up near 11 o'clock or so. But I could be wrremembering things all weird again.

So, after it taking quite a while to make it's way across the pond I've finally received the KKF on monday. Took it to rehearsal and conveniently forgot my one spot, so that I could not power my board. Lucky me that DBA ships their pedals with batteries installed. So I had to make do with the KKF on it's own.
Definitely not a loud pedal, I had to turn it up quite a bit for it to sound good. With my setup the filter all the way up sounded best. Turned it down just a little and it got lost in the mix quickly. Worked in more minimal settings, but my bassist usually plays a lot of notes, and then I need my stuff to cut through. Only all the way up worked extremely well though, whatever the fuzz part of the circuit is, I like how it compresses. It did not record too well, at least through the usual iphone mic sketch recordings we do. It did sound awesome with my Roost amp though, so with proper mic'ing it should be great. I even thought about adding it to my board for that one sound. I have yet to try how it works after fuzz which is apparently where it's supposed to go. But on it's own it seems to struggle with lacking complexity of the signal, I guess it would be best after an octave fuzz or something that gives it complex overtones to work with (Klon? lol). I liked the one sound a lot but could not dial in a second sound that worked in the particular band context. I probably would have liked it better if the two filters were different, because that way I could turn both up trebly all the way and still have two different sounds to choose from. It will do what I got it for though: have one filter set for lost in the mix and the other for sonic onslaught so you can play a mushy intro and then kick asses.

After fuzz will give you drastically different results, in a good way. Actually, i like it post-fuzz at high filter settings but running it pre-fuzz sounds massive using lower settings so I throw it in the middle somewhere.
There's cool sounds to be had on it's own when you push the gain but it's not comparable. That shit comes ALIVE when you pair it with fuzz, no issues cutting through any mix at mid-high settings, def stands out.

Yeah you will be getting a lot more out of the pedal through stacking. I love running fuzz into the filter dialed in at about 1-2 o'clock, but without the fuzz it doesn't sound that great.

Mine came today and i tried it with The Black Acid in Front. Hell yes, great sounds on a super wide frequency range. Really dig The Tones with The gain on The KKF cranked. So far a very good Pedal. Played 40 minutes The same Riff just Messing with Filter knobs.
Did anybody try it with bass yet? I think it will sound pretty fat with a lot depth. Should try it tomorrow...

just like I thought, the perfect match with an octave fuzz. the super puzzle and the KKF are bonerriffic. And yeah, it definitely sound more awesome on the lower filter settings now. but it still doesn't sound too great below noon. i guess that's where the bass plays fine. i found some resonant sweet spot between 1 and 2 o'clock too. fun pedal!
Edit for confession: this makes me want to build a black and gold board. I'd only need that ZCat Hold Delay...

Tried with the Bass and the ezekiel and fuzz Face in Front. Holy shit, very Good

. The amount of glorious depth is so much Fun to Play. Even without dirt in Front the KKF Sounds with Bass Def. decent. Beside the One Filter knob of the KKF, that Sets the Center frequency of the Filter, you can add treble with the treble/tone/Filter knob of the dirt Pedal in Front. I got a shitton of Sounds that are recordworthy
Played it the Last days more with Bass than Guitar. Should do another Guitar Session with some other dirt boxes - but i got totally distracted by the awesome Bass Sounds...
Shannon, thanks for the help to get this Pedal and you are right, it rules on bass

Happy to help, always!
Mine is currently on the bass board also.

Other DBA stuff you should consider are the 3-knob Soundwave Breakdown and the improved but somehow less expensive Echo Dream 2. So very good!

Pic of The bass board!
BTW, i never had a bass board yet - only random Single pedals...
More DBA? Look at my Post in The Gas thread. The Year is starting with too much expensive things. Probably later this Year. Perhaps you will play that man in The middle Game again

Lol, my "bass board" is a revolving cast of pedals on my old diy board, nothing much to look at. I have a medium sized Bedroom Board on the way next week to replace it, pics to come shortly thereafter.
And yes, I saw your GAS list and it is both awesome and extreme! Regardless, you need MOAR DBA, just a couple, you can manage I'm sure.
