I have one again! A spammy by jerms. Awesome Fuzz Box.
Like the old positive ground version? How different is it from the new circuit?
It is the same circuit afaik. It just uses Spam can Transistors as the first ZVex ones.

Hmmm....no particular order here. Not sure if I even have 10...

BOG Fuzz Face. Huge, disgusting, all encompassing. Love it.

Silicon Fuzz Face. Just like it better than the Germ one. Sounds good. Turn up the internal trim to fix the volume drop. Might get another one day.

Big Muff PI. First fuzz I ever got. Big influence on my sound going forward. Fuck yea.

Blackout Effectors Twosome. Whole lotta fuzz in one pimp ass box. Miss it greatly. Dude who has it now loves it tho. Can't complain.

Dirge Electronics Soda Meiser clone. Swear to god, skully is the king of making these. rides that line between smooth fuzz and nasty octave fuzz. My boner man.

Dirge Electronics Rose Ssstampede. Custom one off Skully made me back when I was just getting serious. Still have it, still crushes, still totally ridiculous. Means a lot to me.

Earthquaker Devices Terminal. Fuuuuuuck I need one of these back. Caveman fuzz tones. Didn't appreciate it when I had it and sold it fast. Im a fool.

Earthquaker Devices Bit Commander. This I loved. Not sure why I even sold it in the first place. Uggggggh. More regret.

Dwarftcraft Devices Necromancer. I dig everything about it, except that I got it used and it broke on me. Thats what I get for not ordering direct from your old pal aeeeeeeen. Imma need to get it fixed soon.

Im out of fuzz so imma round this out with...

Boss Waza Super Overdrive. Cause it gels well with everything that I throw at it. Can't leave home without it. <3

Oh well. Good that we have a conversation and can clarify this ;) . It is "fuller" sounding: more bass response and more interesting harmonics. The normal/regular version sounds quite flat in direct comparison.

Oh cool! Do you have any of those "fat" cap mods that are on the new ones or just plain-old? Making a fuzz factory more harmonically interesting sounds very ...interesting. Or i may be very boring lol

I think it is just a straight forward replica of the original spam can ZVex FFs. Mine looks exactly like this one:

Unpleasant Surprise is so great. I've owned 3 or 4 over the years and I always come back to it. It's my main heavy fuzz sound in my current band. I keep it set pretty tame (as tame as it gets) and if I play it by itself it gates super hard and sounds gross and crackly and glitchy but when I kick on another dirt in front of it, it turns into a ripping gated fuzz with some ridiculous clarity.

I actually haven't tried many new fuzzes in the last couple years because I've been so happy with the US and I'm too poor for extraneous fuzz.

But my top 5 over the years have been
1- Unpleasant Surprise duh
2- SS/BS TAFM
3- SS/BS Mini cranked, and specifically the hi gain modded one I had a few years ago that has been lost to the void
4- RMA Dirty Doper
5- any fuzz being pushed by a Green Ringer

ck3 wrote:List for guitars with various numbers of strings and tunings (no particular order or ranking and mostly categories vs. specific fuzzes):

1. Fuzzhugger Algal Bloom V2, which is almost versatile enough to be the entire list
2. Harmonic Percolator (any non-neutered clone will do), e.g., Customeffects, Barge Concepts, Zander Circuitry, JDM Pedals
3. Proco Rat clone with enhanced controls and the mojo opamp, e.g., Yellowcake Furry Burrito, Earthbound Audio Iron Pig
4. Something that can produce screechy, velcro-ish textures with arpeggiation when playing in the upper register, e.g., Fuzzhugger Velcrobot or Zvex Fuzz Factory
5. A Bee Baa clone that has a good approximation of the original tone stack and at least offers two fuzz modes, e.g., Maxon Fire, Earthbound Audio Pale Mare or a heavily-modded Big Muff (any circuit type) with mids
6. Ampeg Scrambler clones with a blend control that can exceed unity gain if needed or other unique upper octaver, e.g., Maxon Void, Shoe Frog
7. Bitcrushing device, preferably with a blend control and the ability to both receive and goose other gain sources well (still looking, but love my WMD Geiger Counter)
8. Something in the Tim Escobedo Uglyface family or a PLL clone or suboctave fuzz like the Catalinbread Perseus
9. Buzzaroud or Dizzy Tone clone, e.g., ARC Crimson King, Jext Telez
10. Anything with horn-like qualities, e.g., Holowon Static Egg, J. Rockett WTF
Still the same array of 10 options, but more examples to consider.

1. Earth Sound Research Graphic Fuzz- when I finally branched out from hardcore punk, this clone I built (my first one) was there for me in spades. A vicious wall of sound.
2. Jext Telez V4 Dizzy Tone-meaner than the day is long and like a fucking paperweight. Got it during my brief stint as a camp counselor and almost glad I got fired so I could try it.
3. Fuzzhugger Arc Flash- always had the right setting, thing was magical, sold it for nothing to buy some gas and miss it
4. Big Muff Pi- My first pedal, bought in a Jets to Brazil haze
5. DueceRat- It totally counts. Was a friends, and jesus did that thing rip
6. Modded MXR Blue Box- A friend made it and I don't know what he did but it worked like a dream with my dano baritone
7. Octavia- cause Austin had one, and he was the coolest kid in high school
8. Way Huge Piercing Moose- found at a garage sale, put through its paces before I pawned it to get a bus ticket back to Appalachia
9. Dwarfcraft Hair of the Fuzz- A solid wall of fuzz that I toyed with endlessly at home but never really got to use
10. BOSS HM-2- Cause I'm a Slint nerd and though I never got to their prowess, it was just fun to try

1. Lastgasp Art Laboratories 88 Super Oscillo Fuzz - my everythang.
2. Fuzzhugger AB-Synth/Sonic Shroom - dem droanz and suboctaves.
3. Dwarfcraft She Fuzz - cuts through everything.
4. Mellowtone Wolf Computer - instant videogame satisfaction.
4. Shoe Pedals Silver Apple Deluxe - deeper videogame satisfaction.
6. MASF Thornoscillator - harsh noise wonderland.
7. 4ms Noise Swash - deep noise processor.
8. Dwarfcraft The Great Destroyer - unusual sounds generator.
9. Electro-Faustus EF103 Guitar Disruptor - digital sound mangler.
10. Ehm, superfuzzes?

Damn, need to rebuy several of these once I've got a more steady income.
Yeah, this seems about right. Still need to rebuy a Great Destroyer at some point, miss having one around.
Slow morning, so might as well have a look at this. Having had a few years away from the phase where I tried everything has shed some light on what I like from a fuzz. So...

1. Lastgasp Art Laboratories 88 Super Oscillo Fuzz - still my errythang.
2. Dwarfcraft Shiva / She Fuzz - the longer I've had this, the more I've come to realize my love for it.
3. Mellowtone Wolf Computer - wanting to sound like a broken GameBoy is part of what got me started with weird fuzzes, and this one excels at that.
4. Fuzzhugger AB-Synth - fat, synthy drones.
5. Dwarfcraft Great Destroyer - industrial noise.
6. Zvex Fuzz Factory - the og oscillating fuzz, and many still copy it with an added functionality here or there.
7. 4ms Noise Swash - this is the craziest and noisiest fuzz out there.

I guess. That's still pretty similar to my original list, actually. Apart from these, I'd mostly just mention other Fuzzhuggers, stuff from MASF etc. Still own the top 3, might rebuy some of the others at some point.

You and I are apparently long lost fuzz brothers. Other than the 88 I currently have all these and they are regularly on the table for play.

Phantom arcade goes on for sure, Gagan Skyripper, Moosapotomus dirty bird, Colin Rafael' s parallel universe 2..

So many but your list plus these is my list

1. Fuzz Face Germanium. MJM London. Perfect clone of the Dallas Arbiter 66.

2. Fuzz Face Silicon. MJM London II. I liked the London so much that the idea to try London II grew. I eventually ordered one, and like it even better.

3. Octave Fuzz. MJM Roctavios (custom shop with fuzz only toggle -BOG Fuzz Face). Can do clavinet, flute, synth, horn etc. in a natural way.

4. Tone Bender mk2. MJM/AVS Britbender. Very musical, beautiful take on the Sola Sound/Coloursound 65/6.

5. Fuzzrite. I have an obscure clone (Retro Tone Ennio) which i'm not sure how close it sounds to the original Mosrite.

6. Triangle Muff. Because it was the first one, & best sounding. MJM Foxey. Kicked my Wren & Cuff The Caprid (Ram's Head) out of the board.

7. HM-2. Boss, MIJ. Just because it did a lot for a pedal that seems to not sound that good at first sight.

8. Shin-Ei Companion SY-2. Mine is the EQD Terminal. Very bizarre, extreme fuzz. Sold it & bought it again. Has that typical sound.

9. Maestro FZ-1. I don't have that one but i like it. Maybe the Terminal can get close on some settings, don't know.

10. Tone Bender mk1. Don't have that one either. Also the Buzzaround is an interesting option, or the Super Fuzz.
