I love the old HR-2 Harmonists. There's just something about that sound. Super tweakable too, moreso than the newer PS-5's and PS-6's. And put an HR-2 in the loop of a Chk Chk Boom and you have an instant Rainbow Machine.

The mega distortions are just awful. My buddy has one, and it has no balls whatsoever. It's all like, spikey treble, sub bass, and no mids at all. Don't even waste your money. I really hope they never become a thing.

Basically my view is that they are really competetive in the world of digital delay/reverb where boutiquers can't easily improve on the basic model for basically the same price. You sort of saw this when their analog delays were the shit for a while, but then everybody and their brother made a boutique analog delay and flooded the market. Now you see them pop up on people's boards but it isn't any big deal. They still sound good, but there's a lot of other options, where as there is basically no good competition for the DD-7 or RV-5 except Stymon which costs like 200% more. In the modulation and dirt world its even worse, where their circuits are easy to understand and therefor improve with higher-quality components. The main reason to use boss pedals these days is because they're built like a brick shithouse and they're easy to find reasonably priced replacements for so they make great touring/gigging gear.
I really like their low gain stuff - the OD3 and the BD-2 are great. Their medium to high gain stuff is a little iffy, although I haven't tried their new dist pedals.

That’s quarter-assed at best.
Just stay away from the mega distortion. The md-2 is a steaming pile of doodie. I got it thinking woah mega distortion but yikes was that not the case. The low end was all flubbyness and there really were no mids. Ban that pedlaaaaaa

Do you notice any difference between MIJ and MIT? What do you have the high and low set at when you're using it as a boost? Curious!!!
Yes! Quoting myself! Another odd choice - What's his name - from Crowbar, he used a Metal Zone as a boost, gain at zero, eq at noon - I'd be interested if anyone has one to hear what this sounds like. Like most people I dislike the Metalzone and I'm not keen on buying one just to try it out...

I had a Keeley modded Metal Zone and IT STUNK. To be fair, I don't think I ever tried it as a boost.
I've got an MD-2. It's not very versatile but it brings the br00tz when i need it (which is never). but it was my first pedal and I'll probably take it to my grave some day.

It was my Second pedal and I gave it away to a buddy of mine. I recorded some black metal with it and listening to it now makes me cringe. Needs more broooootz! It did to a pretty great punk tone
