I'm only editing outrageous subjects for the kids on here whose parents might be afraid of words.

Anyway, I get where you're coming from and the anger, despite alcohol maybe magnifying it a bit.

Some times you really want something. And others really want it, but you must have it, and that's it, even if you end up paying more then you should..... or can.... I decide before hand on anything I buy what is the most I will play for it depending on need/obsession. I've only gone over the top on interms of a pedals worth once so far... Vinyl all the time lately, DAMN fucking limits of control, why did my favorite director have to pick my favorite band to do the music so fucking prices went through the roof

On the other hand... Sovtek... I get a kick out of that a pedal I got new in guitar center for $70 sells on el-bay for $$$

I understand "paying more than you should because you want something," and that's why crazy prices sometimes just organically happen. Small builders can't always meet demand, so that naturally pushes the price up as people scramble to get one.
So I have no problem with natural supply/demand affecting prices...but it's when people calculate, intentionally buying a rare item that they don't want that ethics comes in. Then the people who actually wanted one to use are disadvantaged. It bums me out when it happens, because I can put myself in the shoes of the people who want an effect to USE IT!

Blurillaz wrote:how did ass get censored but pricks didn't?

 I think it was the "suck" aspect (asspect?) that made ass seem dirtier.

Like, if it was "who suck mad prick," then prick would've been made dirtier by association, getting it censored.

haha. :idk: Or it's just cause I did a half-A edit of it.

True. Well I can say this I collect for use, I have only sold off maybe four dirt boxes I have ever owned. If I actually buy it I have a use for it or think I will. If I can get one sound that is good or unique then it is worth it to me.

Thanks again though. :thumb:

I did notice, but agreed with myself that it was awesome having both of them.

Well said, Tommy, I feel the same way. It's why I hope the things we do stay on ILF as I really feel like in general, people here get that vibe of using and enjoying the pedals and fair trade practices if a pedal has to go. I've seen some pretty rare and sought after stuff go for completely reasonable prices around here and I think it's really cool.

I think and hope that the vast majority of the direct order stuff we do is for folks who really want to use and enjoy the pedal and that feels great and we appreciate it a lot. I think the profiteering we see sometimes is really lame and it sucks even more since our production numbers are so low and we know that not everybody who really wants a pedal might have a chance to get one, so it's hard to not feel partially responsible for the price gouging as our inability to keep up with demand has basically caused it. *looks down and kicks a rock*

So yeah, you collector a-hole prick Fs who suck mad A... s you in your a's, don't wear a c, and j all over your b's!

i don't really mind when people flip things like trinkets and little collector's items, because i feel like that's what they're made for - sit on a shelf so you can talk about how much you spent.

but when it comes to anything music-related i just don't really get it. these things are built to be played (last time i checked, at least).

and when an ilf member is guilty of buying pedals just to turn a profit, it gets especially sleazy.

of course, maybe someone really just didn't mesh well with the pedal, and had to sell? you can never really know what someone's intentions are until you talk to them.

If you buy something and it doesn't mesh well with you. fine sell it. Here's my rub with Price gouging. Are you the producer of the product? what work did you put in other than being either A: lucky enough to win a give away or B: lucky enough to click buy at the right moment when there was stock available.

Say if Devi Ever makes roughly 16$ in profit off of selling one of her pedals new what right do you, a non producer, have to make $40+ profit because of a rare graphic you scored? Obviously Supply Vs. Demand will dictate some fluctuation of prices but there should be some kind of ethical thought put into your price. If you're a seller who care if the item will last 10 seconds on ebay if you sell it for what the vendor lists it?

If you own a 1995 Toyota Celica can you sell it for more than a Lexus because they don't make them anymore? fuck no.

I place half of the blame on idiots who will pay obscene prices because they are either too stupid or too rich to care. both traits lead me to believe that no good music will come of their purchases anyway.

That's because you're missing the "demand" part of the supply & demand equation. If it were a $SomeCarEveryBodyWants (sorry, I know buggerall about cars), then damn right you might be able to sell it for more than a Lexus.
How much was a Fuzz Face when it was new? A Tone Bender MkI? 1958 Les Paul?

It really just sucks for us little guys.
But I've found that a lot of the time, if something has a lot of hype and the re-sell prices are insane, it's just overglorified shit anyway. Or when I finally get it, it's really not all that I expected. Hype is a funny thing like that.

Of course my Miniberator is like the coolest fucking thing ever, it makes me guitar sound so good that ht might mistake me for a jazz dood.
Fuck it, tone is subjective anyway.

SPACERITUAL wrote:Woah i got alot of hate on this. I apologize if this was in the wrong forum i was a little drunk last night. Im not going to fight with anyone because id rather that not happen on this particular forum but im going to stand by what i said. Ryan does alot for this forum, he goes out of his way to give us free pedals at a time when they are in really high demand, he takes time out of his day to post more here than quite a bit more than any of the other makers and he even decides to give us price breaks on certain pedals and create limited runs that he advertises here. That being said, when people use this generosity to make profit for themselves...they unabashedly abuse Ryan and this board. I dont like that at all. ive seen someone selling a pedal that was a giveaway here for more than retail, i dont see how im in the wrong by being shocked by that. I mean yeah you dont know Ryan personally, but how can you see that pedal as anything more than a gift? Right now im hard up for the money but even if i didnt like my ILF frazz i wouldnt even consider selling it unless it was to someone on this board who i know would really use it and get alot of enjoyment from it, like ryan intended. Maybe this is just another idiotic post from an even bigger idiot that ryan should delete but this is my genuine sentiment and i stand behind it. Lets try and not let sleazy profiteering end an era of good naturedness here.

i don't know any facts like who is selling what at whatever price, but i generally agree with your sentiment. Profiteering seems quite counter to the whole of ILF ideology - independent builders (most often musicians themselves in search of great tools) producing quality, innovative, and custom musical effects for very agreeable prices. To think of someone flipping the gear for profit, without even plugging it in, offends highly my fuzz romanticism. Yet the reality could easily be someone having gas pains, buying and trying the gear, not liking it at all, and falling out of love. In such case, she gots to go, and capitalism gonna take her. :excellent:

I think some people are missing the entire point of the thread. Tom and ryan and devi and and others go out of their way to give away free pedals and pass along discounts and special products to the members of this board out of a love for the community and fuzz in general. Bearing that in mind, someone signing up for one of the giveaways, winning the pedal, then taking it to tgp (where they know they can make more) and selling it for way more than it would be selling at retail is FUCKING SLEAZY. Theres no way around it. So what if you didnt mesh well with the pedal, put it up on b/s/t for a trade or even sell it for a little less than retail (but for fucks sake check with ryan or tom first so you dont make them look like assholes for selling something they gave you for free). The same goes for exclusive ILF pedals. You really think ryan is unaware of the demand for his product right now? He could have offered that limited run through dealers for much more....but he wanted to do something nice for the community so he offered them here for reasonable prices. At least two people bought those to immediately put that shit on TGP for more than they paid for it. People like that have no respect for the ILF community in general and are openly taking advantage of our resident makers generosity. This can also be said about the blems. Ryan could have just as easily rescreened those pedals and offered them for retail sale.....but instead he passed the savings on to members of our community...now these are products that are NOT INTENDED FOR THE GENERAL PUBLIC AS THEY ARE COSMETICALLY DEFECTIVE. So not only are people profiting off of them but no doubt this is going to reflect poorly when these pedals start to circulate and could potentially harm ryans business. But then people just dont give a fuck about that do they. Some people have suggested that im just mad that i didnt get in on the miniberator runs....uh up until the other night i had a jc120....no offense to ryan but i really at that point had no desire for a reverb as the built in on that amp is irreplaceable. HOWEVER, i was the recipient of a very special ILF frazz dazzler. I fucking love it. it makes me want a woofer wailer as well. Anyway since i won it ive recieved a ridic amounts of offers to buy it over AIM. People not even bothering to register for the fucking forum but offerin g me more than normal frazz dazzlers because its one of a kind and they know they can fucking flip it. Sleazy. If i ever decide im not meshing with this pedal or whatever....you can bet your ass its going right back up on the monthly giveaway to keep in in the community. It was a gift and as such i really dont have the right to make any money off of it. Thats just my opinion though.
