How many times have we heard “surprise singing sensation” about some body who is un-attractive but sings fantastic. Or “how could such a good looking person be a criminal?”
It’s the Hollywood, News Media crap. Pretty is better for every thing including politics.

I’ll listen first then decide if I want to watch them with the mute switch on or off.

No, but I have purchased albums based entirely on their cover art before. Interestingly enough, I discovered one of my favorite bands of all times that way.

Ah but doesn’t cover art move things into a different category.
True when it started being more than a picture of a band on the front, it was simply about marketing.
If it catches your eye you’ll buy it., In the late ‘60s it became a competition of sorts between bands and record companies to have the coolest looking covers.
I think people only began to think of it as art within in the last two decades.

Oh, it totally does move it into a different category. And in my case, I discovered bands because the art was cool... I didn't keep listening purely because of the visuals. If the cover art was good and the band sucked, goodbye album.

That said, I might go to a Gwar show just for their looks. Since that's pretty much the point in the first place.

Good point about gwar. This opens a whole new discussion when costumed performers enter the ring. One of my all time favorite bands is the Mcrackins. They dress up like 2 eggs and a dog (used to have a chicken). and I first went and saw them based on the getup. But I love them and bought all their records. Now they don't dress up every time. and I could care less, its the quirk that got me in, but the hook that brings me back. If you love her in the morning when her breath stinks, then you know its for real.
