This.

I like knowing just enough theory to ignore it and play what feels right. I've been giging/writing with my band for the last four years abouts. I don't have time to practice scales and things I don't really have interest in. I practice and write and just force myself to write things I can't play yet. then by the time I CAN play them, I've learned a new technique, chord shape, etc. that i can incorporate to everything I do from there on out.

It may not be the fastest way to learn guitar, (I still can't play a decent solo to save my life but that's not what I like in my music anyway) but I am dedicating my memory and playing style exclusively to what I want to do. :)

in a lot a wayz i feel really self-conscious about not really being able to play guitar i.e. not knowing how to riff or play leads or even play a song, which makes me want to learn scales & stuff. & then i see someone playing a really lame-ass wanky solo & that kind of discourages me from trying to learn more. at this point i can't even Barre/power chord i'm more like E minor chording. i think that. with an alternative tuning, effects pedals and a shortscale guitar really got me into even getting that far. i want to learn a bit more & stuff but playing all fast & stuff is not for me.

Buzz has this really great about guitar playing. like any kid at any Guitar Center could run circles around his guitar playing. i am not against being a guitar virtuoso or like Johnny Lang or whatever. Jeff Beck. i like Jeff Beck. but...

:)

How do you play then, bro? Not being a smart ass but I'm curious. I know very little scales and theory and sometimes I just have trouble finding the right notes without fiddling. What do you do?
