Right.. some of those joints look like they could be a bit cold, so i'd suggest heating them up and adding a bit more solder to them untill they look smooth and shiny, not grainy or dull and that may fix your problem.

The other thing i'd suggest it to get a cotten ear bud, dip it in some kind of cleaning fluid like white spirits and cleaning around the area you've soldered

It takes a fair amount of heat to overheat resistors so I wouldn't have thought you'd have burnt them out, a bad connection due to a bad joint seems more likely.

YES! I got it back! w000t
although it does seem to be a little more tempermental as far as noise goes...
now to try that damned synth mod again....!!!

thanks for the encouragement, scruffie!!!

sadly, the synth mod doesn't sound as cool on mine. :(
I get a weird oscillation drone thing thats at a very low frequency :(

Hmm, changing the clipping diodes to LEDS - does this require wiring resistors to the LEDS too? And do they have to be 3mm? I brought some green ones a while back, I know I have a lot of 5mm but I might be able to find a 3mm somewhere in there.

  Nice one getting it back :thumb:

LEDs... nope no extra resistor needed just drop them in as replacements for the current ones (Make sure you get the Anode & Cathode right though), as for being 3mm, that's mainly because they'll fit in better but 5mm would work, depends on there specs to how they'll sound but it's worth a shot!

Well then, I just replaced D4 and D5 with a pair of 3mm green LEDS (I liked the green color better. :P) - and I have to say I think I'm gonna keep it this way! I think it's much more usable and versatile than it was stock. The diodes were a bit of a bitch to get out (not bad, just annoying), but it went well!

Whereas before it was a bit more aggressive and saturated, at full gain now it's giving me a nice rhythm tone that lets all the notes shine through clear and true!
It's not enough to get into metal-core territory, but it pulls off a sweet heavy rock sound!
I can totally see myself using this to record some rhythm tracks with complex chords that requires a nice serving of RAWK!!!!
It seems to let a little more of the lows through, as even where it used to sound overly bright, its now got JUST the right amount of shine and body - turn the gain knob down and turn the tone up just a smidge and it gave me a gorgeous overdrive sound, especially through the Jazzmaster's middle position - It reminded me of SRV's "Little Wing" tone with a little more edge.

Like I said, I must've hit SOMETHING wrong, because it's letting a little more of the noise from my Jazzmaster get to it - or maybe it's just because I'm running it at the moment with a crappy cable and without my noise suppressor, and, well, hey - I have a Jazzmaster. LOL It's not bad, it's totally usable - thinking about it, maybe my noise suppresor will fix it. :P

Now I just wanna put this thing in a Little Big Muff-style casing (I hate Boss cases and I hate orange pedals. Go figure!) and I think it'll be the secret weapon on my board!!! w00t!!!

Thanks to everyone for the help!!! Haha now to see what else I can pull with this thing!!!

 Schweet.

Yeah parts can be a bitch to get out, especially without a solder pump/sucker or desolder braid but ya got there.

Glad it's all going good now and you're getting some good tones out of it :joy: Regarding the noise, overheated transistors can get noisier but I don't know if you soldered any of them or not otherwise you could try reheating the joints again or it could even be the position of the wires inside.

Second to that, it could be your cable and lack of noise suppressor, this could be one way to sort it if you've got the time http://www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/shielding/shield3.php I highly reccomend it, did wonders for my strat and it's safer too.

Regards rehousing there is the issue of switching... Boss pedals use those little tactile switches I think hence the paddle foot switch so unless you're confident enough to true bypass it, it could be tricky to work out a system for switching it, probably easier to break out the spray paints and go to town on the orange casing.

Regards to what else you can pull.. that's where the fun comes in.. there's so much that can be changed, I personally like sticking switches in to go between the new & original component/value, here's an article on switching so you can turn your DS-1 into a switch laden beast http://www.beavisaudio.com/techpages/Switches/

Good luck with your new addiction :thumb:

Yeah, I figured the switch would probably give me hell, but I'm sure there's gotta be someway to do it.
Plus i figured a bigger enclosure (the boss one is really cramped) would give me a little more room to have a little more fun with switches and crap.
Considering I'm still new at all this, the last thing I wanna do is try to do something in there and end up messing up something else.
But until then, I totally just pulled out the sandpaper, and I'm about to go to town on this bad boy!

What makes me laugh is that I was looking for some nasty sounds, and instead I got a really sexy shimmering overdrive. LOL

I just tried the E13 DS-1 mod, sounds great! Is it just me, or did it increase the distortion minimum a bit also?
