what clip are you referring to? all the clips posted are just of Verellen amps, not of the Big Spider. i haven't found any clips of the Big Spider. i wish there was some.
i've been interested in their amps for a while, mainly the Loucks and the Meat Smoke.

See what happens when you say “ultimate”?
Now I need a couple of different spiders and a Miss Muffet to complete my search.
Hmm

I'll only be convinced if it sounds good through a First Act solid state combo with a six inch speaker and a First Act guitar from Wal-Mart. The guitar and amp together can't cost more than $99.95!

I was actually thinking more along the lines of something you actually see a lot of people gig with like a GK solid state head or an ampeg hybrid, as opposed to an all-tube boutique head made by the same manufacturer who makes the pedal. I haven't taken a pole or anything, but I would venture to say that more than half of bass players out there are using SS or hybrid amps.

Last night a buddy of mine and I were playing a Gibson SG (current one, not sure which model) >> Devistortion prototype >> Big Spider >> Fender Deluxe Reverb, and holy hot mamacita was that amazing. At the most savage settings it was that total greasy eggs in a frying pan kinda thing, all sputtery and starvey and just dying all over the place but with insanely high gain. And then you could kinda tame it back to just kick-ya-in-the-gut walls of OD'ed fuzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. My other pedals were crying a little.
Also - the build quality on the Big Spider is probably the best of anything I've seen. Moog quality but more evidence of the maker's hand (screen printing on the enclosure is a little glitchy, etc.) Amazing stuff. And for $150? Who could complain.
Regarding the guts, yes - it could definitely be housed in a more modest enclosure, but that's no fun. The wood panels are just so sexy.
Can't recommend this one enough.

Could you give us a better description of the sound, and what the knobs and buttons do? I'm not clear based on the site...

Yeah, for sure. I can give it a try at least. The fuzz side (with the sawtooth wave printed on the enclosure) is based on the
Ibanez Standard Fuzz circuit. To describe it, I'd say it's got that buzzy sawtooth thing going on with some octave up as well.
Then the other side adds a mid-scoop fuzz onto that, so kind of like a wall of mud shows up underneath the buzzy octave-y stuff on top. Sounds great for all of your chord playing doomy stony kinda stuff.
The overdrive control does just that, overdrives the whole thing. The more it gets cranked clockwise, the more everything breaks up. Pretty great stuff.
Probably just need to demo it. But then y'all would know that I can't play. Hahahahaha.
