For a dose of '60's garage and psych....get the NUGGETS boxed set.
It's a classic compilation originally released in the early '70s.

I think probably anything by Sun Ra
The Top by The Cure is probably their most psychedelic album - not exactly crazy, but people always give it a kicking and I like it, dammit, particularly Bananafishbones and Piggy in the Mirror.

I love "The Top" too.....but I would argue that "Pornography" is much more psychedelic.

And speaking of The Dukes of Stratosphere......listen to their song "25 O'Clock", then listen to "I Had Too Much To Dream Last Night" by The Electric Prunes (contained on the NUGGETS boxed set).

"Pornography" is very possibly my favourite record of all time. And I don't often say things like that. It comes pretty damn close to perfection in my book.

Anyway, back on topic

the mighty Butthole Surfers!

Gentle psychedelic pop and straightforward fuzzy garage rock, or something more out there? From the 60s only or later?

Red Krayola.

Silver Apples.

Yeah, the Dukes were quite the influential band, I daresay ;)

Uh.....I kind of meant it the other way around......considering the Electric Prunes track came out in 1966, and the Dukes came out in 1985.

The first two Nuggets compilations for definite...

All the classic stuff... Beatles - Revolver/Sgt Pepper/White Album, The Stones - Their Satanic Majesties Request, Pink Floyd stuff already mentioned.

Me, I'm not keen on the famous San Francisco stuff (Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead, etc) but I love the Charlatans and Moby Grape...

All the freakbeat (mod meets psychedelic): The Who - Sell Out era, The Action, The Attack...

Family - Music from a Dolls House... Blossom Toes - We are ever so clean....

..and the only album by the United States of America is amazing too.

Sure I'm forgetting something obvious... but there's a tonne of great stuff from the psychedelic era, full of amazing fuzz tones even on some of the cheesiest songs.. and it morphs into Krautrock which morphs into postpunk, noise, and into today...

Some people might not consider this psychedelic, at least along the same lines as other bands mentioned, but I love Animal Collective's Sung Tongs.. Their earlier stuff is really out there, too. :idk:
