I won a Walrus Audio fuzz on IG that they released right before they folded.

^Walrus (Oklahoma) is definitely still going. (not sure which he meant) Walrus just released the Fundamental series. Add Lore & Fable, that's 10 new pedals in the last year.

That’s what I thought too, but having been paying much attention to pedals the past few months, so thought maybe I’d missed something.echorec wrote:^Walrus (Oklahoma) is definitely still going. Fuck—Mammoth Electronics, not Walrus. Different ivory-bearing mammal. Mammoth had been doing pedal parts and was just expanding into kits when they folded.
I’ll correct the prior.
I’ll correct the prior.

Re: The inferior design (buyer beware) thread
conversely, i'd like a list of fuzz pedals etc. that it's impossible to keep near unity gain unless you stay in the first 2mm of knob travel. old EQD and Devi Ever pedals are the worst i've dealt with. i don't want a huge leap in gain when i turn the fuzz on.I'd love to see a list of fuzzes that barely (or don't) make it past unity with the knobs dimed. I've consistently been surprised at this. I know that's just how a lot of vintage designs that get repurposed into the market these days are, but I don't find it useful.

Oh yeah, I have never owned a Devi Ever pedal, but I tried a bunch at Moog in Montreal once and I noticed what you describe.

This has been my issue with every envelope filter I have ever owned… and the moog is still my favorite… wish they put output volumes on the things.. that way you don’t ALWAYS have to run a compressor after the things..

With the envelope filters, it's probably so nobody goes deaf when a bum note is rushed, or to keep yr speakers from blimploding on account of said flubbery
I don't mind non-unity fuzzes, but the simplest logic would be the Mascis Conundrum, that is: make your fuzz the loudest signal, then adjust everything below it. Not ideal for everyone, but good for certain gooses' ganders.

As for ye olden fuzzes, to boost or not to boost within the circuit is also to puncture the yolk of character/tone, which have endlessly been reworked to fix unit/volume issues, a la the Blackout Musket. I haven't looked under the hood at any newer variants, but that integration seems normalized, to a point.
However, I guess it's probably a good idea to stay away from fuzzes powered by watch batteries or are covered in enuff electrical tape to hide that fact

Re: The inferior design (buyer beware) thread
that's an awfully long review to boil down to "cheap quality, not worth $279, don't buy." no way was i going to sit through that whole thing.

I dunno....I'm still watching, and I think he just might flip to "please buy it - it's great!" any moment now, but I'll let you know!dubkitty wrote:that's an awfully long review to boil down to "cheap quality, not worth $279, don't buy." no way was i going to sit through that whole thing.

Also, he's English, they do things differently there, don't have Temptations catte treats (they're called "Dreamies" over there....the nerve!), and has a wizzard/Mark Boone Jr. beard, so.....

Just found a thread on this at the OSG board....yeesh! But thank U 4 yer serviceSPACERITUAL wrote:I’ve personally had bad experiences with, or received bad product from:

Re: The inferior design (buyer beware) thread
my EF is the old version of the EMMA Discumbobulator...it's very compliant as far as output level is concerned. its drawback is that it's not tremendously adjustable. there's only three knobs: Sensitivity, Width, and Attack. but it's fine for my Jerry Garcia approach to the EF for which the Sens is in its top 90%, width at ~7:30-8 o'clock, and Attack most of the way down. they redesigned it with an added Boost knob, but i don't need that from an EF. so if you have problems with EFs boosting the output signal, this could be your new best friend.Blackened Soul wrote:This has been my issue with every envelope filter I have ever owned… and the moog is still my favorite… wish they put output volumes on the things.. that way you don’t ALWAYS have to run a compressor after the things..
