Haha, IDK, I was never anything but skeptical of politicians, but that's just me... I thought the "hip" thing was to compare Obama to Jesus!

I am not trying to say that you or anyone else here believes this, but I think many of the rabid supporters are even worse than the detractors (what president doesn't have those?)...

It's not that I believe everyone who supports Obama fits this "Obama zombie" stereotype, I just think it's a VERY dangerous mentality to have when people put so much trust/faith/hope/whatever in ANY one person...

Sure, I would like to believe he wants to/will change things, but I can't help but feel like he's just as full of shit and just as arrogant and out of touch as every politician that ever fucked you, me, or anyone else over for whatever reason.

I am not even arguing that someone else deserved a NPP. Still, I really couldn't say, but that's due to my own ignorance more than anything.

I will say this much: I am certainly willing to give Obama the benefit of the doubt regarding certain issues, and I figure (out of the candidates who had a chance due to getting any real coverage), Obama is probably the lesser of two evils, but, to quite Devi, "I'm not holding my breath" (for ANYTHING).

Anyway, I don't want to give the impression that I would've voted for any of the other possible candidates over Obama, though, haha!

Okay, I just pulled up the news, and there's the Nobel Committe's explanation of why they gave it:
"They lauded the change in global mood wrought by Obama's calls for peace and cooperation, and praised his pledges to reduce the world stock of nuclear arms, ease U.S. conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthen its role in combating climate change."

So now people get prizes for making full of shit promises? Haven't politicians been doing that since the beginning of time? This "excuse" for giving Obamunism a Nobel Prize is absolutely totally and completely without merit.

Well, this clearly does make me biased but I think it also gives me some perspective, so take it as you wish, but I had the experience of living in Chicago while he was a state senator and working on his campaign last year so I've actually been following the guy for a long time now.

i lived in Chicago. on the south-side. from 1999-2002. and voted AGAINST him when he ran against Rep. Bobby Rush. that election is really the main reason i don't like him.

anyway. i think the Nobel Peace Prize should go to a HUMANITARIAN. not a politician. or at least someone aligned w/ a NGO doing real work to improve to peoples lives. i think giving it to him really besmirches the legacy of the Peace Prize IMO.

Hu Jia should have gotten it. He was detained as part of a crackdown on dissents during the Christmas holiday season in 2007. Reporters Without Borders said that “The political police have taken advantage of the international community’s focus on Pakistan to arrest one of the foremost representatives of the peaceful struggle for free expression in China.” The decision to take him into custody was made after peasant leaders in several Chinese provinces issued a manifesto demanding broader land rights for peasants whose property had been confiscated for development. On April 3 2008, he was sentenced to 3.5 years in jail. Hu pleaded not guilty on charges of "inciting subversion of state power" at his trial in March 2008.

i guarantee you that Obama will do things in the intervening years that will completely invalidate & negate his winning the Nobel Peace Prize. you would be extremely naive to believe otherwise.
