i don't use a pick on bass. i don't care for the sound of picks on a long-scale bass. i also learned in a jazz context so i never really worked it up. i'd probably use one on a short-scale bass with roundwounds.

I like playing bass with a pick. Floppy ones too to get that plonky post punk sound. Still, too dumb to keep a grip on them

qertsy, we could not be further from one another in terms of picks!!
Big stubby triangles on bass is the best! I can't deal with floppy picks.
Floppies on guitar are ok, but jazz XL is the best. And Gravity picks. Shaped like jazz XLs..

I like fat picks on bass butthey gotta be pick shaped! The problem is i pluck to hard so nothing lasts past a rehersal. I had copper picks for a while and they lasted a bit longer but mangled everything and wore out a lot still. Ones I remember I liked alot on bass were the ones with the rhinos that were trans-yellow and the purple big stubbies but they are just plastic so they wore out quick

I think picks on bass for me is 50/50 [bass has been my main instrument since 92...] I'm in the stiff tri pick camp mostly, more punch, power, bigness... but.. when I started out I liked mediums because of feel, and over time I ended up on heavier picks... I do not like picks that have no flex... more tham 1.25mm and they have no give at all and feel weird to me.. for oddball sounds like ticktack bass stuff though light picks produce interesting and cool sounds.

If you can get on with fat and solid picks I can recommend the $20 I spent on a stoneworks one.

seems like a lot on the face of it but it hasn't worn yet

I prefer a thicker, stiffer pick and I absolutely can't stand a thin, floppy pick. Currently my go to picks are various EQD and Fairfield picks that came with pedals and a pink ILF pick (I have no idea where that one came from? One of you sent it to me with a pedal? Maybe it was ILFSS? Either way, thanks!).
I am very interested in grabbing a few picks of different materials, but no idea where to begin. Any suggestions of decent quality metal or wood picks?
I've also been trying to find some finger picks that fit my sausage fingers, but I think I will have to settle with resizing them with some heat

Just bought one of them to try it out. Got a 3mm Gravity pick Stealth model that Vidret hooked me up with. I wanted to try the "master finish" which is supposedly slightly brighter, but I had to go down to 2mm to get one in stock. So I'm keen to see what a 2mm Gravity pick feels like after playing with the 3 for so long.

i'm a sucker for possibly overpriced fancy picks.
these are really cool (i have a few different sizes & shapes):
https://www.hellparts.com/super-blacks-picks.html
i have two of these & think i will end up getting more, because i really enjoy playing with them:
https://www.chickenpicks.com/shop/cp007 ... r-2-picks/
i still have a stash of the blue Herdim Triangles that have been out of stock/discontinued for years
i also have some thin V-Pick triangles that are good for fast tremolo picking.
but, honestly, i'm fine with the plain 2mm Jazz III's in most circumstances.

Ahh man a Devi pick would be cool

Seashells and squashed pennies make for interesting sounds

there's one there for a taishogoto (like a keyed/plucked string keyboard thing) but they mainly seem like repros of old pre-tort ban plectrum shapes? googles says CITEs banned tort trade in 73 so presumably, you could get tort plecs like that all through 40s-60s.
interestingly, at least the guy from ningen isu uses one of those huge shamisen picks on guitar. feel like i know other japanese players that do this but can't think of specific examples.
